OK, I'll try this forum out! :-) I'm installing braided lines from the 2 Wilwood Brake MCs to the footbox wall, to join hard line outside. But, the question (I believe) is general for AN fittings.

What sort of torque should be applied to these fittings? Am I correct in understanding that no thread sealant should be applied?

More directly for this endeavor, is there any trick to using the flaring mandrel? It looks straight forward.

I have the following parts from an old post on ffcars, but now I can't find the information on correctly installing.

#3 Stainless Steel Braided PTFE Hose
flaring mandrel for #3 steel braided hose
Straight 3AN Hose End for PTFE Hose
3AN/42 degree Inverted Flare Brake Adapter, 3/8x24-Short
3AN Brake Fitting wiht Frame Tab (to run through the footbox wall)

Thanks!
Eric

no thread sealent on an fittings

torque is snug - just use your wrench on it and give it a bit of a tighten. Not too much or you can cause damage to the fitting, but snug. These fittings don't require a lot of torque to seal properly

I don't use a Torque wrench on these and never have.

Always use oil on the threads - just a drop will do it.. Once you have the fitting snug (just past finger tight), tighten it one flat (1/6th of a turn) tighter. If any leaks (rare), give it just a little more.

They say one full turn to tighten once snug.

AS others have said, just torque them enough to stop any leaks, using oil on the threads. There is actually a torque value when used in a military application, but just snug with no leaks is good for automotive apps.

I just viewed this video and the one complete turn relates to compression tube fittings and not the 37º male to 37º female torque.

Here are guidelines for the different sized AN fittings from Aeroquip.

Added edit: These specifications are for aluminum fittings and not steel. Similar information can be found on page 51 of their performance catalog.

That's for installing a compression fitting - 1 full turn when tightening an AN fitting would probably split it!
