I took some time last night after work to do some finishing touches on my car. I got some black Quik-Latches, these are the newest ones and have 25% more holding strength than the originals. Put them in and they look great.

Are those the mini's (1.23in diameter) or the low profile (2.5in diameter) ? I really like these over the AeroCatch I was planning. The only downside to these are no locking mechanism, but they sure look nice and simple.

Wayne, I like the black Quik-Latches. Do you think they could be painted to make them disappear?
BTW, last night I was fondling the cool billet shifter you sent. Thanks.

I have been running quick latches on my Evo since they debuted years ago.

They technically CAN be painted, however the clearance between the button and the housing is very very tight. I am planning on painting a set soon, but I will lightly turn down the button a few thousanths for clearance.

The only problem I have had on them, is that in cold weather they freeze. I had a battery die in cold weather, and had to buy two cups of McDonalds coffee to pour onto the latches to defrost them to open them.

The buckets ("pockets") are designed for flush mount of the pins. lets say you have two flat surfaces you want to use these on... The bucket rivets/screws to the lower surface to create a recess where the pin is located (along with a spring) in which the bottom of the latch can enter when latched together. A second benefit of the buckets (with the spring), is that when you push the button in, it releases and the spring pushes the latch away

    Here it is with spring:

I made some some brackets to bridge between the sides and rear body panel and mounted the post on them. I threaded the brackets to make height adjustments easy.

I didn't use the spring pockets either, although, I did get them...just one more piece that seemed to complicate the issue....I just did like wayne..height adjustment is accomplished in seconds.

Buy them anodized and they will readily take primer. Or have them powder-coated and skip the anodizing.
I know you said disappear, but they come in blue, black and red anodized. Might make for a nice accent since they will never really disappear. You can only get close to a spray paint color with powder-coat. Might be easier to match your body paint color to a powder-coat finished parts color.

Thanks, Wayne for the Quik-Latch suggestion and pics.

Wayne, Thanks for the info on the mini latches. Great idea. I want to eliminate the hoops pins on the back edge of the hood, and both sets on the engine cover, same buying a couple minis. I think I have a plan for the hood and the rear side of the engine cover. How did you eliminate the front pins on the engine cover on yours, if you don't mind me asking?

I do not think that I'll have to open the hood hardly ever so I made it a bolt on. I bonded plates on the hood and then made straps that attach in the nose opening and the back of the front wheel opening.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I'm referring to how you eliminated the hood pins on the forward end of the engine cover, just in front of the roll bar. In one of your pics I see a screw on the cabin side. I'm assuming you glassed in bracket and the screw keeps it in place?

I bonded in a plate with a hood pin nut welded in on an angle so the pin would be normal to the area on the sides where the manual tells you to put the pin. then put the clip in from under the flat.

Any shot... I'd like to know where it works w/o interfering with something that I have to install later, like that would ever happen... I'm likely to put it where it interferes withe the trunk hinges (as an example)

Well not yet, my daughter got married last Saturday. So Thursday all the groomsmen went fishing...

Thursday night someone broke into my shop and stole $2K worth of tools.

But the wedding went off with out a hitch

then Saturday night they came back and broke into the other shop and stole a 4 wheeler...

Perhaps you need to announce another outing and be lying in wait or at least have cameras set up? Sorry to hear of the loss, but congrats on the wedded daughter.
Also, check pawn shops and Craig's list types of sites. "Friend" pawned a tool I lent him and said it was stolen from his car.
