    818R #001 Build Thread

    I finally hit a major milestone, engine removal!

    I had been tinkering with the car, removing this and that to get to the point that I can pull the engine and tranny.

    Now to clean up and get the engine and tranny clean and broken apart.

    Note to self:
    140 140 142 145PSI compression test.

    Are you kidding me? I have had it since April!

    Motor is out, can't find my compression test kit...
    Rack out and cleaned. Need to depower it.
    Front Brakes/Spindles/Hubs out and cleaned up
    Steering/Pedal Box out
    Gas Tank stuff out.

    Working on the rear stuff now, but it is getting hot!

    OK, I feel I am 99% done with the donor.

    Engine Compartment:
    Engine
    Tranamission
    Radiator
    Brake master
    Clutch master
    Clutch slave
    Rack
    Lower suspension
    Spindles
    CV axle(Someone please tell me how to get that apart!)
    Brakes

    Passenger compartment:
    E brake
    Steering
    Pedal box
    Accelerator pedal

    Rear:
    Gas tank innards
    Rear wheel assembly with brakes and e cables
    Trailing arm and links

    Have I missed anything? I am debating if I am going to pull the harness. I guess I should as I can reuse some of the connectors.

    You will need quite a few connectors so you might as well grab the harness out.

    I actually used a local wheel guy. He took a new set of FR500's in trade I had that wasn't selling. The 18X9.5 only comes in 40 offset. The 17X8 comes in 40 and 45. I am going to use ARP studs and spacers.

    Give Wayne a call. He can give you more detail.

    Very nice. Check out that frame. Big differences. My 818R just was "Hot listed" for Aug 17th. I'm so excited as I am sure you are. When does your chassis get "Home"?

    Yea- looks like a lot of square tubing replaced with round. Looks beefy which any racer will like.

    I won't be going before the SCCA SEB for quite a while, so AMod is what it will run in. From a track perspective it will be TT only, and whatever class is already established. I suspect STU and TTU.

    Can't wait for number 2. Mailed out my final payment today. I like the all the extra structure in the frame. Very cool.

    Front: there's a round bar roll hoop over the top of the dash.
    Side: Where the S has a big V shape to step over and get in, there is a roudn tube going up vertically from the floor to the upper most side round bar and then a ladder of round tubes in between to support it.

    Congratulations, looking forward to following your build. Tear down begins next week on my donor and the shelves are filling up with hot rod parts for my R.
    FFR had talked about the 818R being able to except a Wilwood pedal box in addition to the OE pedal box, is that an option on your car?

    Yeah had a nice long chat with Jason this morningh e told me 2 extra weeks, date set at August 31st. They said that the shop car and Bobs were really one offs and mine will be the first true production R. Yours is most likely number 2. I'm perfectly cool with the wait, I'd rather have the control arm issue worked out and any more kinks that may present themselves. More of my parts will be ready as well.

    HA not to worry, Not one of a kind or anything!

    Meaning they bent and cut the additional tubes in house for everything. The next ones will use prebent/precut pieces method that FFR uses on all their other cars.
