    Air Cleaner Sizes

The oval air cleaner that came on my engine is too big to fit because of the A/C unit.
Can I replace it with any air cleaner, or does the size vary between different carburetors?
    Thanks

What carb do you have? If Holley 4150 style (most common) they're all 5-1/8 in. diameter on the carb. Many choices out there.

Wix lists the nominal CFM rating of it's filters in the books. That seems a bit small for a lot of them, a typical Ford 5.0 cone filter runs 350 CFM, the larger truck versions up to 450 cfm. Doesn't jive with the "advertised" CFM we see with carbs, but that is actually just that, a nominal advertised number, like cam duration.

K&N is just one of dozens explaining how to select the correct size: http://www.knfilters.com/filter_facts.htm#SELECT

I had the same problem with the A/C, but wanted an oval air cleaner.

I wound up getting this one. There are other 15" oval options too, but I liked this one.

Before that, I ran a standard round one and it fit with no issues.

Just a thought..........you might want to wait until you get your hood installed (if its not on the car) to make sure that there are no clearance issues with the air cleaner you pick and the hood.
