The black stuff is carbon fiber? You must have paid a fortune for that or not?

It is second hand so a bit cheaper. ~22 $ per yard by 50 in wide.

I moved it back so i didn't need to cut such a big cutout in the engine cover. The front hasn't been fitted fully yet but i think I can make it work once i get the door part sorted. You can see there wasn't much material taken from the engine cover.

Does it really stiffen enough so that you can pull up the front hood without it jiggling?

I haven't mounted it yet but it is a world stiffer. It may still flex a little but I would guess that there is a 75% reduction in flexing at least

Great work on the panel stiffening! I did the same but with aluminum bar and fiberglass. I like your solution way better. I'll copy you on the trunk and engine cover.

That looks like a good option. If you are looking for additional ideas to strengthen, you could use balsa wood like they did on the old Porsche 914-6 hoods and deck lids:

What concerns me is that if we need to bend a little some panels, like the hood for instance to clear the single wiper solution, maybe it won't bend enough anymore with the CF inside. And it's pretty hard to apply the CF while the hood is on and closed.

My hood fits over a single wiper with no mods.
You should have your hood on and closed while it dries so it forms to the car.

Ops I didn't do that (the hood on the car while drying) but I think I'll try that on the others. Just tricky to put it is place at the right time. Basically once it is tacky. I did support my hood as close as I could to its installed shape. Balsa wood is a great idea! And may be easier to work with. Carbon fiber really likes something to adhear to. It doesn't like thin air.

I used 1/2 by 3/4 balsa standing on edge for the front edge of my humps. The humps were weak at the 4 roll bar cut outs.
I did have to notch the balsa some to clear the roll bars.

Gonna try photobucket vs imgur. So I got the doors mounted and Bob I used your idea of balsa wood for this last part. It is stiff enough that I can lower the hood down with one corner and the other side touches at the same (or close enough). Enjoy

Picked up a 6 speed. something I want to point out and I mentioned this to Factory Five already as well. The FF 6 speed conversion only works on a trans with a DCCD and the last three digits of the dccd being 190. The internal trans pics are from a 05 JDM spec C. Luckily I was able to swap it out for an 06 JDM STI and conversion done. Engine is still at the machine shop the last time Auto Science (my local shop) checked So I've been making progress on the body. Since I moved the body back an additional .5 in I ended up making new latch mounting brackets. Got started on installing all Zero decibels louvers so i can get them all powdercoated.

Nolan had recommended Auto Science to me for our engine rebuild and I dropped off our engine and transmission there yesterday. He had also invited my son and I over to take a look at his 818S so we headed over afterwards.

Nolan is doing some great work on that car and it looks fantastic. I really appreciate the opportunity to see his build and be on the receiving end of so much advice and lessons learned. It will all be very helpful for when our kit arrives.

I just wanted to say Thanks again Nolan!

Your cuts for the hump vents look great. What method/tools are you using for the fiberglass cuts?

Wiring done up a little better and fuel system is temp installed looks like I'll need a few shorter hoses but otherwise close.

Rearranged the fuel system and like this solution much better. Put wire protection on some of the wires. Rerouted the turbo blowoff hose to underneath the intake as well as extended it with a radiator male to male 1.25 in adapter and 1.25 hose. Pics to follow

The first one we stopped because the turbo oil line wasn't tight. The second one is a little long but I figured some would enjoy it. We stopped because of air in the coolant system. I'm the one pushing the accelerator. The guy looking for leaks is my friend Ryan who has been working on the car with me from the beginning.

Been busy since my last post. 6 speed shifter brackets installed as well as reverse lockout disabled, created a mounted bracket to support the fuel Y blocks, back half of modified center console installed, both seats installed, created mounting brackets for the fuse boxes and the hazard switch, made a bracket to allow the guage cluster to be installed, made new dash mounting brackets (provided ones did not reach) and finally installed the dash which was still a pain. There's about 20 pics showing this below.
