I built a Cobra a looong time ago. So long ago that I attended the first Huntington Beach event (if I have my dates correct). I also raced a second Cobra in the challenge series. Rip Dan. I eventually sold both cars and built an experimental airplane from a kit and fly it around Tahoe. I guess I'm stuck on the kit thing.
I am back thanks to FF5. It was pure chance that a flyer about this years Huntington Beach event somehow made it to my mailbox. That's how I found out about the 818!
I immediately told my wife that she made a big mistake by giving me the letter. She said that there is no use trying to stop me anymore.
very cool. i used to work for aerocanard in the 90's. i'm helping my brother finish a lohle 5151 now. we're about to skin it and do the first start. my dream plane is a berkut, (all carbon fiber - 9+ g's)but i'd probably kill myself in it!
I went to Oshkosh two years ago. You have to experience if it you haven't been there yet. Warning - The first test flight is a severe pucker event but very rewarding.
my brother went every year for about ten years, he's got a '46 ercoupe also. i've never been, but i've been to sun n' fun in lakeland when i worked down in florida. we both worked on a xp-82 project (443887 - Twin Merlins) in douglas ga. for a couple of years, (twin fuselage p-51 mustang) starting with just a left hand fuselage and some crash recovered tail pieces. we reverse engineered a right hand fuselage and remade the vert stabs, horiz. stabs, rudders, elevators, doghouses, etc. it was some of the most fun building i've ever had. (makes a kit plane or car seem incredibly simple) p.s. i didn't have anything to do with the horrible rivit job on the finshed fuselage, it was done after i left.

Welcome back! You should post some pictures of your airplane; I know I would love to see it. When do you get your 818?
CF-
That plane project is insane! I love the P-51, and the idea of marrying up another and making her fly must be insane. The performance of that plan with one engine is ridiculous, and I can't imagine what your beautiful bird must do. Well done!
I have been to the Oshkosh show before, and was truly amazed at how talented and enthusiastic everyone was. Some of the projects were beyond amazing, and I can only imagine how far things have come since I was there.
Sorry for the tangential detour! Welcome back Tim and please keep us updated.
