Great job Erik. Reading Dave Smiths post about SEMA it sounds like I will find your car in the FFR both. I can't wait to see it in person.

The Black Mamba build did not disappoint at SEMA. Glad I got to meet and talk about the car with you. It was the show stopper in the FFR booth. Every time I stopped by it was surrounded by people. That's going to be a hard act to follow!

    Thanks,

    WEK.

Eric, your build looked even better in person. I talked to many prospective builders each day wanting to know the difference between the 289 and MKIV.

Erik, did you make the rear view mirror mount? And do you have it attached through the dash hoop?

    Thanks

    Bill,

yes I made it. No. I don't mount them to the hoop. I am afraid of a crack developing.

Very cool video Erik Just started MKIV build this weekend and already want to do a 289 FIA. Was there any thought to get in it and drive it home from Vegas? you would have stayed warm for a few hrs heading South East.....

Spent Friday and all day today....got a good 150 miles out of the car...tuned all the cruise rpms....man am I tired of drilling out jets on the webers....I miss my fuel injection!!!! I tuned it a little on the lean side for now since it was 55* out today...it should richen up nicely in the summer. It does pop a little on decel..but it drives great and seems to be happy! Found a few things that I needed to fix, adjust, and tighten...but all normal stuff with a new build... drives great though! it is loud! I got spoiled with the turbo I expect that I am getting around 14-16 mpg since I don’t have vacuum advance....oh well...the webers do seep gas from the base gaskets after shutdown...seems to be pretty common, but I need to see if I can fix that...I was told “good luck”... I will keep after it. Anyway.,... removed the wide band... wiped it all down...ready to go out in public now....looking forward to New Years!!!!!! Dare I say.... it’s done!..... I burned down Wayne phone....sorry brother....I miss my fuel injection and the internet wasn't much help at all....your help was dead on perfect!

Again, the car looks awesome. I hope to build one just as nice soon. How are the Hoosiers on the road?

I know we talked yesterday and I've tried talking you into the black wheels but if I build this car I'm calling black wheels first! LOL. That way I can look like and hang with Bruce Meyers (who owns the original) when I see him at Cars and Coffee! It would be awesome to have Erik's on each coast with the same car. I could only hope to build it as good as yours. Maybe you can come out and help!

It's nice to know about those Weber mounts. I'll have to file that away for future projects-- it makes sense that it's coming from an aircooled VW page!

Another stunning result, by the way!

ABSOLUTELY UN REAL !!!! I do have two questions, is that a Corvette fill tank for radiator? Is there an alternator inside the generator housing?

I've read through your build thread several times. Turned out great and you do in hours what takes me days... I'm thinking about another build. Would be my third. 289 FIA is what I'm thinking about. Most everything fits together with what I've already learning with the Mk3 and Mk4 Roadster builds. But learning about 15 inch wheels and tires. Tell me more about the Hoosier tires you used. Exact size, model, where you bought them. etc. Is this a street tire or supposed to be a racing tire? Most of what I've seen for Hoosier tires are bias belt vs. radial. Is that the case? What's your experience with how they handle? I'm finding what everyone else has found. That tire selection for 15 inch wheels is really limited.

On that note, saw from the pictures that Factory Five mounted Goodyear Polyglas tires on their demo build. Took me awhile to remember where I'd heard that before. Then I remembered it was well known muscle car tire from the 70's. I was around then (for sure) but in those days couldn't afford anything that had those mounted. Also a bias belt, and quite expensive sold as throw-backs for cars from the era. Not sure those are what I'd want on a real driver.

AS I noted earlier the Hoosiers initial impression are that they ride pretty darn nice. I have not leaned on them in a corner yet. I think I have the sizes listed in the earlier post...if not I will uncover the car in the next few days and post those for future reference...I choose them based on the Goodyear Billboard sizes, since those fit, I figure why not go with what fits...I didn't have time to mess around

found it on page 3 I think.... tires are 245/60/15 and 275/60/15
