Lots of TQ on mine and the 3spd auto plus the 31% OD will give me a good combo with a 327 rear gear. The longer housing on the auto with OD also gave me more driveshaft room at the frame for suspension travel by moving the front U-joint way back.

    It's a very subjective choice.
Think about what you like and are using the car for.

I'm building one with a manual. Nothing else can substitute shifting through gears with a clutch!

Auto. Much more room for big feet and better in traffic.

If you don't wear clown shoes and want to keep weight down the manual tranny is the lightest option. I personally feel the auto adds more heat to the tunnel, but maybe I still get the pedals crossed up
Besides, with a magneto and manual trans who needs batteries??

60/40 split so far so more autos going in than I expected. The 33 builders as a group are way different than the CR owners for sure.
The manual/auto split over there would be WAY different, I don't recall ever seeing an auto CR, not even sure if it would fit ?

I think it comes down to pedal box room. The Cobra has enough width that you can still stretch out your left left to a dead pedal. With the tapered nose of the hot rod there is not much room and with a clutch, your kind of stuck riding around with a bent leg and that get kind of old after a while. Again it depends on how tall you are and how comfortable you want to be.

    Tremec 3550 manual with 3.55:1 rear gears. About 1800 RPM at 60MPH w/ 0.7? overdrive 5th.

Pedal box requires me wearing skinny shoes or sandals. Best are my old race shoes from Simpson.

I've contemplated trimming the width of the clutch pedal a bit for some more room.

    Best regards, Tom

Mine was an auto. Primarily for the foot room, and I really don't have clown shoes. And who says that you can't shift a built auto trans? (Not talking road course driving).

It certainly makes a difference in what you want to do. For cruising the streets an auto with overdrive and a lockup converter keeps the feet and ears happier. I'm not sure a reverse manual valve body, 4000 stall, and tranny brake in a C4 would be appropriate for this chassis, BUT, I don't like autos for things like solo auto cross and midlife crisis cruising. With a manual tranny, high compression, light flywheel, and deep gears I feel like I have more "feel" of the car and more perception of control. I certainly wouldn't build an 818 with a CVT tranny out of a forester, but I might put a powerglide in a cobra to drag race Let us know what you decide!!

Manual is more fun, auto is more practical, it all depends on what you are going for.

6 speed manual. I personally couldn't imagine driving a car like this the other way for me, but hey my daily driver is also a 6 speed MT.

I built my 33 with the T-5 manual. If I build another it will be an Auto.

The plan is 4R70W (auto) on a Coyote - wife has bad knees and can't handle a clutch.

T56 Magnum XL 6 speed manual, McLeod RXT twin clutch, 4.10 gears with a Truetrac. I wear size 12 shoes and can drive it fine on the street in street shoes, but wear narrower race shoes on the track.
