Hi,
I'm hoping someone here can help me. I have a '95 Mercury Cougar XR-7 IRS that I'm using for my build. I had a machine shop redrill the uprights and rotors to the 5 on 4.5" bolt circle diameter and install new wheel bearings so I'm good to go there.
I can't figure out how to get the outer CV joints off the rear axles.
On page 10 of this pdf. form:
https://www.factoryfive.com/wp-conte...-STD-rev-K.pdf
it says, "Slide the larger joint off the shaft and set to the side."
Then on page 11 it shows a picture of the axle shaft completely disassembled.
I tried sliding the outer CV joint off the shaft but there's no way it going to just "slide" off. I found the inner "C" clip and I removed it from the groove but that didn't help. I don't want to take a hammer to the thing and 'see' if that will work (and with my luck, screw up the axle shaft).
How do I get the outer CV joint off the axle shaft?
I hope someone can please help me.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me,
Dave
