I think a new 5.0 Coyote with a Ricardo transaxle would be a neat package. Don't know about the width of the engine if it would fit without mods to the frame. I think the Ricardo would bolt right up to the Coyote. I think the bellhousing pattern is the same between the old 4.6/5.4 & the new 5.0. Headers, motor mounts & electronics would need to be integrated. Need the input of the Roadster/Coyote guys to find out more about the new 5.0
The Coyote will be tight. When I was up at David Borden's, I measured the width of his Coyote and my GTM's engine bay width. The are about equal, so it might not be too hard as the modifications would be small. The exhaust almost points straight down and doesn't add to the width of the engine/exhaust. I love this motor.

I have taken a look at it and put a CAD model of the Coyote into my CAD model of the GTM frame. It is really tight but with the exception of some interference with the two of the tunnel tubes, it clears everything. In my opinion, those tubes could be modified without affecting the chassis stiffness. I am already committed to another engine but I would like to see someone else make this happen.

If someone makes this happen, I'll love them forever as it'd save me some money on my build. *was going to put a coyote in his fox*
The Ricardo transaxle is sitting in the garage, the Coyote is ordered and on the way. Just need to get the rest of the car now. Im afraid it may be some time b4 that happens though.
I just ordered a hard copy build manual today and hope to start a build in about a year. Someone PLEASE document a coyote build before I'm ready so I can follow the path. I'm just an average guy that tinkers on an old Mustang GT. I don't have the skills to pioneer something new. I hope I can follow the manual well enough to give me enough confidence to tackle this kind of project. I would love the build process and the challenges it presents.
I seriously doubt the Coyote will fit without excessive modifications. THe front of the engine is much different than the LS. I really like the Coyote (see first start thread on roadster forum) but I just see no what for it to fit without a TON of modifications. JMHO, YMMV, Richard.

I had the same feelings about Chevy when I built my GTM. I figured that using a Ford motor would not be all that difficult but once you clear that hurdle you will still need a bunch of corvette parts to complete the GTM.
I have never owned a Chevy or worked on one before this car. Once I got over the Ford vs. Chevy issue, I found that I really liked the LS motors. They are very potent little powerplants and just as easy to work on and tune as a Ford motor. There is also great aftermarket support for these motors as well.
Good Luck,
Rich
FFR 514 I have to agree; the LS1 is a great motor, great power in a compact size. I had to get past the Ford VS Chev thing too but once over it I was impressed with the LS1. JMHO, Richard.

Wish I had the same GM experiences as you guys. So far.....I have not.

Shane. I hear ya. I just had a potential issue with my crate LS3 involving an intake valve. I have my fingers crossed for next months dyno session.
Just this morning I get yet another email from my customer in Germany stating that his check-engine light is flashing (typical GM) and that the engine will not run over 4500rpm and constantly backfires....even at idle. New crate LS7 with new GMPP wire harness and new GMPP ECU. This is the same engine that spit the harmonic balancer bolt out after 75 miles. So I'm guessing he's probably up to 200 miles total on the car now, and already has had 2 total break-downs due to engine problems.
GM will NOT warranty these engines. Buyer beware.

Those symptoms appear to be tach/RPM reference related (not the in dash gauge wire). Have him check the connection of
this wire to the computer's connector. It may even be a loose connector at the computer (tighten the bolt on the harness
with proper torque).
Maybe one of those two suggestions will lead you to the fix.

HI...I am resurrecting this thread. I am considering a GTM build in the spring but as a Ford dealer I can't come to terms with Chevy power. Is there any new information out there about using the 5.0 Coyote power plant in the GTM? I have access to some pretty solid fabrication guys so I can do fabricating to make it work if it is even possible. Any information is appreciated.
I am not a fan of GM, so I used a solution that is based on the LS engine from Mast Motorsports. Ok its an LS engine, however it has fewer GM parts then a GM Crate motor.

Cool idea. Tell everyone its a Black Label. What transaxle did you choose?

It's a black label 419 ls3. 632hp 534 tq. Mast ecu, mast specification wiring harness.
I am using the mendeola transaxle built to factory five spec.

Thanks. The build is taking longer then I planned, however seems that happens to most. Plenty of pictures on the attached thread. Members will see them all. Guests will not see them till mid thread. My lobby to allow all pictures stored on this site to be viewed by all was squashed.

John that is absolutely Crazy Cool! I love the stack injection. Is that a Borla system?
I hope you're planning to swap the valve covers from side to side. I can tell you from experience that you won't have fun trying to reach into the front of the engine bay... Especially to try to add oil to the engine.
Beautiful Engine / Transaxle combination!

Hi Mike
Thanks for the compliment.
The intakes are Hilborne fuel injected. They sound pretty sweet and work well also.
here is a link to the engine on the dyno.
Yep thanks for the tip on the oil filler. This was a pic I took right after I had the motor and transaxle in the car for the first time. I swapped the valve covers a few days later.
Sorry for the thread jack. I guess the point is you can still go with a motor that fits into the GTM like an LS series but still have something that you can make a case is no longer a GM product.

Hi Guys,
I was reading this thread, and started searching for Coyote transaxles. I found some guys who are building Ford GT replica's, and they are trying this stuff allready.
Here is the link:

I am not sure what the width of that engine bay is, but it can not be far of from a GTM.
Only plus for them is that it has not tubes in the rear of the chassis :-P
I know a guy selling a DOHC 5.4 NAVI engine for $1000................... HMMMM
