Need Input for custom manual steering rack design

    818 folks,
I need your input for custom manual steering racks for us. Quaife will make them anywhere from 2.2 to 3.1 turns lock to lock. Those of you with the STi racks (2.6 turns LTL), if you could choose a faster one, say 2.4 or 2.2 would you rather have that?
I'd love to have input from everyone who has tracked their cars about your steering ratio feedback. I'm most interested in 818R builders since a quick ratio rack & pinion setup may be a bit of a pain on the street for parking, but much better on the track.
    Thanks!

I have a power rack to send to Quaife for them to reverse engineer into a quick ratio manual rack but it appears there is no interest here so I'll put my idea on hold.....it costs $350 just to ship the example rack over to them!

Maybe it was a communications error? I have an interest and I know of at least one other who does as well, but you asked for "input from everyone who has tracked their cars" and that ruled me out. Sounded like you were asking only those who have tracked the 818...which would be like 3 people so far...

Anyway, I'll be making due with an STi rack until your Quaife unit is available. =)

My vote is to make it 2.2 since I'd be less motivated by a custom rack that is only marginally quicker than what I can get from the OEM parts bin. I know there's more to a steering rack than turn ratios, but it's a major motivation in the purchase.

Thanks. You are correct I should have worded it both ways, those who have already tracked their cars and those that would like a custom quick ratio unit too.
Sorry, I forgot he sample size for the number that have been completed and driven on a track was too small to gauge interest.

If I were Quaife, I would build a 13:1 rack. The same ratio as the group N rack, which sells for about $3,995. Would give them a much larger market base since the WRX crowd would buy it as well.

Thanks for your input. Is the Group N rack a power rack or manual? In this case the Quaife would be designed as a manual from the beginning.
However it would not be Quaife, but one of us. They want me to give them the specs, they build it and ship it to me. It would be up to me to sell it. I have to order a minimum of 10 units.

Yep, not many WRX/STI folks want a manual. Very niche market for the manual rack, basically just us 818 folks. And if most 818 owners are satisfied with de-powering their rack than it's a non-starter except for maybe the dedicated racers. I'm sure the rack would be lighter and quicker.

    Here's the rack:

How much his this going to cost from them? You can buy a 2015 STI rack for $600 that is 13:1. Open it up and remove the fluid seals on the inner ends of the rack and it will work perfectly depowered.

Don't know yet. I thought they would sell direct since I have to order 10, but now they want me to order thru their US Distributor which will add cost. The US Distributor hasn't replied to me yet.
