    Electrolysis question

So I'm finally getting around to having my unibrow corrected and...... oh wait, not that kind of electrolysis.

I had to get a used spindle off ebay because the right-hand one from my donor was frozen solid to the drive shaft. The spindle I got off eBay has plenty of rust on it so I'm going to try the electrolysis method of removing it. I've never done it before but have read up on it.

The one thing I can't seem to find is: Can I use aluminum for the electrodes? I have a bunch of expanded aluminum gutter guards laying around that would work perfectly. Curious to see if I can use those or if I should just use steel rebar instead.

    Thanks!

Nope. It needs to be iron. If you dont have any steel laying around, then rebar is really cheap.

Use steel. Some metals will plate the part instead of converting rust.

And what ever you do DO NOT use stainless steel. It gives off a poisonous gas.

I do it a bunch. Rebar works great. Also if not in a rush molasses and water works great.

A can or two of crystal Drano in a five gallon of water also works well.
