    Flashers

    Hey Guys,

Does anyone know why my flashers and hazards are not working? I turn on the switch and the light just stays on.

Do you have all four bulbs in place? Any chance you switched to LED bulbs? The flasher relay needs the proper load to work, assuming it's not defective in the first place. Also assuming all the wiring is correct.

Yeah Paul, I thought about it after I posted this. I didn't have all the lights hooked up yet. Duh.

That'll do it! Glad it was a simple one.

So if you change to LED flashers, is there a 'load' you can add to make them work?

Ok, now I have another issue. My right indicator light stays on, but it is really faint. Any ideas. Did I cross a wire with my RT turn signal system?

    Hey Rod,

To get mine to work I had to purchase a DPST switch. If you are using the FFR black lever switches, Radio Shack has the same brand. Will prevent feedback causing light to stay on and they will both flash

Please do not add a "load" to make LED's flash correctly. Purchase an electronic flasher that's compatible with LED's and that matches your flasher prong arrangement and all will be well. If you also run a single turn signal indicator, you may need to wire in some diodes to make it work correctly.

Adding "loads" is a waste of energy and does nothing but create heat, sometimes a lot of it. You may need a safe place to install them.

I think that's post #4 for me... back to lurk mode.

Places that sell LED lights (like www.superbrightleds.com) sell replacement flashers that will work with the lower resistance LED bulbs.

Hard to give a specific answer without more details. On the surface, sounds like the circuit may be backfeeding. More details about the circuit you're using? And when does the indicator stay on? Only during hazards, only turns signals? You may need a diode or two in the circuit, if you don't have already. Or if you are using, maybe installed backwards?

We have both LED bulbs and the correct flashers. Our flashers will work with all LED's or a mix of conventional and LED bulbs. We do also sell the dummy loads to put the resistance back into the circuit but like Boydster says that is not the best way to go.

Ok the hazards work now, but I'm having troubles with the Russ Thompson turn signal. I wired everything as to the instructions. I checked everything again and again, and then once more, but when I turn the lever both sides flash at the same time. Now what?

Single dash indicator? If so did you install diodes to stop the backfeed?

I would try to isolate the problem by breaking down the two circuits. The RT turn signal works just like the SPST switch shown in the RF schematic. Grey to the common wire, Dk Grn to left and Lt Blue to right. If you disconnect the pink hazard flasher feed, do the turn signals now work correctly? If so, and the hazards work correctly as stated then it's backfeed. Diodes properly installed will stop it.

Well, I checked the diodes and they are working properly. I rechecked my wiring and everything is correct. I disconnected the hazard flasher lead. I disconnected my right front and right rear wires. I turn on my blinker and low and behold all my lights still flash, all four corners. OMG. No what? I disconnected my left front and left rear wires, and you know what they still flash with no wires connected to the switch. WTH? Where are they getting power from?
