    Group Buy: Trunk Hinges

What: Group buy for billet/laser cut trunk hinges to replace the stamped steel OEM hood hinges that get cut up and reused for trunk hinges.

    Cost:
    5-10 people: $185
    11-15 people: $175
    15+ people: $160

    Current List:
    1: Svanlare
    2: Frank818
    3: Speedy G
    4: Sbcamb
    5: Hendow
    6: bbjones
    7: Ninjanick
    8: DMC7492

    What you get:
Billet CNC milled hinge base (pair)
    Laser cut drop arm (pair)
    Laser cut curved arm (pair)
    Stainless hardware

Some of you might remember this interest check thread here:

    http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showt...et-Hinge/page2

It died for one reason: the shop making the billet parts simply stopped responding. I've had all of the laser cut parts in hand for 4 months just waiting. At this point I've all but written the parts and the deposit off for the time being and am having these made elsewhere. However, that also means I don't have as much free cash to go buy another $1k+ worth of parts and hope they sell.

That's where the group buy comes in. I'll leave it open for a week (or two, depending on the volume of responses) at which point I'll take deposits of 50% from the interested parties. Lead time on the parts is 4 weeks for the billet pieces, all of the other pieces are in hand. The prices for the group buy are also lower than the original estimates because...well, that's what group buys are for. Lower prices.

    FAQ:
    Billet milled vs laser cut?
Laser cutting is good for flat parts and much more economical than milling. Often times laser cutting is 1/2 the cost of an identical milled part. By using laser cut parts where appropriate I can sell finished products to you for less than what it would cost me to buy milled parts. Milling gives very smooth surfaces on all sides, laser cutting allows for smooth surfaces on top and bottom but the sides will have a grained surface. Tumbling smooths this out somewhat, but it is not as smooth as milling.

    Example surface finish:

Does this part figure into the construction of an 818C? I was not at the open house unveiling so I do not know how the new panels relate to the old panels.

Even though I have to modify the rear tower brace (cutting and soldering the bars flipped from bottom-up), I have not to modify anything on the outside of the tower bolts, which is where your hinges bolt.

So... I'm in. But I can't take deliver until I order a bunch of other stuff from you (need to save on shipping to Canada!), and I need a few weeks/months before I know. But I'll pay whenever required.

    tnx

No it does not suit the 818C. 818R and 818S only

Correct, the 818C is very different (no trunk lid, just a rear hatch with an integrated lid).

Frank, I can hold onto parts for you if you'd like, no problems.

Unfortunately I need to come off this list as well. I love the part, but realized this is the trunk trunk and not the engine cover. I'll be running the R wing and will need to slot the trunk for wing supports. Kinda takes away the benefit of the hinges if I have to pull the wing to use them.

Bump for a new week. I'll probably take whatever total their is at the end of this week and order that quantity + a couple extras as to not delay parts longer than necessary.

Update: The bases are due to ship next week. The timing works out well that I won't have to take deposits on these. I only ordered 10 pairs though.

Do you need any money from us if we are not ready to order yet (some have more stuff to order from you and need time to gather everything)?
Or do you need the money on that now and later we pay you for other stuff that will be shipping at the same time as this part?

Everyone on the list above should have received theirs by now. I think I have two or three extra sets, maybe more?

I've been getting several requests for these lately. I got new quotes for the machined base (the only part I don't have). The quote came back a lot higher than it used to be (almost double). Not sure how much interest there would be at $250+/set. It wouldn't be worth it to me at a lower cost. At the original cost I would actually lose money on each set. I'll take a look at making a sheet metal version of the base vs a billet piece.
