    460 Distributor too tall...

I've got a 460 SCJ in my MK4 and as expected I've needed to make many modifications to accommodation its size and power. Case in point, the MSD distributor that came with the engine is too tall and conflicts with the air cleaner. When I look at distributors most don't indicate in the specs what the height is from the block to the top of the cap so it is a total guess on my part. Those of you who have a big block surely have faced this problem and have the solution to my dilemma. Sure could use some help. Thanks.

A picture or two would really help. You could probably just change the air cleaner assembly.

Had the same issue with my oval air leaner. Tried everything I could think of, but ended going the turkey pan route. Not cheap, but I t works. I think it even looks and performs better.

I had the same issues. 14" round is as big as I can use since I have an HEI type distributer with my Mass Flo injection. I would love to use my cast oval cleaner but.... Nick C

If 1/2" will help get one for a 351W. It is 1/2" shorter on the housing sticking out of the block. Everything else is the same except the gear is a smaller diameter. Swap it over to the 460 gear. I had to do this to clear my fuel rails.

Thanks guys for your ideas and pictures. I'm going to rethink this issue and see what I can come up with. It would be nice if I don't have to replace my distributor and can make it work with what I have.

Is there an alternate dist cap for your dist? Something like the cap on Topfuelhydro's.
