backfiring when I let off on the gas after hard acceleration

So when I gun it, then let off the accelerator it likes to pop and grumble...Timing? Too lean?? any ideas? 393, carb, no vacuum, ffr hooker headers. Sounds nice and mean, but worried it is bad for my engine.

Leaking header or collector gasket is a likely culprit.
