    FE Oil pan question

Doing an FE 390 build, does any one know max depth on oil pan before getting into clearance issues.
The flat bottom Canton 9 qt. had some bad reviews (sealing issues). Thanks

From the bottom of the block to the bottom of the pan is 6". Now the round frame is 4" motor mounts on top of that... I don't think the pan will be below the frame rails... if that is what you are talking about

Thats it, thanks Al... decided to go with pan that FF suggested (Canton flat bottom). Not many FE builds to follow.

Do yourself a favor before you mount the pan. Put in 8 qts of liquid(water) and make a measurement from a known reference point on the pan so you can mark your dipstick accordingly. Not sure which Canton pan you're going with but their interpretation on 8qts and Ford's is a little bit different. I found my motor was always a quart low using their 8 qt. setting. When the engine went about 1/2qt low, the oil temp gauge wouldn't work. Canton said the correct level for 8qts was right at the top of the wings. But when I put 8 qts in, it was still 1-1/2 qts below the wing. Started running more oil and the problem went away.

I also used the windage tray.... I hope my pan doesn't leak... I used a ton of black sealant
