    Stack's MKIV Roadster Build

My Hot Rod has sold and I am onto the next project. Taking advantage of the 50% off options sale I bought a base kit so I can pick out the rest of the options as well. I think I am starting off pretty well and the 50% off makes the IRS option more appealing.

    Here is my build

    MKIV Roadster Base kit
    17" Wheels
    Tubular Front Lower Control Arms
    2015 Independent Rear suspension
    Front and rear sway bars
    Front spindle and Hub assembly
    Stainless side pipes
    4 into 4 headers
    powder coating
    leather steering wheel
    Floor mats
    Padded Dash
    RF harness

This car is going to be a budget build of sorts. I have a 302 and T5 from another project that will both be rebuilt. Pics to come once I get started on something Garage is empty and clean and headed to the open house tomorrow.

I was able to get to the FFR open house this weekend and hit up the parts sale. I picked up an AFCO radiator for $50 and a new 2015 Mustang IRS Center section with 3.55 gears for $250. I found the knuckles online for $389 with bearing assembly part number M-5970-M. I will have the AFCO pressure tested to make sure it is good since it was in the garage sale. Lots of other parts coming in from Rock Auto as well

Pickup day finally arrived last week. I headed out towards Mass on thursday stopping at Forte's first to pick up my transmission and made it to the hotel around 5pm. My 2 oldest kids Andy and Kali and I had a great dinner at Stone Forge in Raynham then spent the night swimming in the pool and watching a movie. Friday morning we were at Factory Five at 9 when they opened the doors. My kit was all ready to go and Greg and Nate loaded me up. Talked with Dave Smith for a little bit about upcoming projects and all the big plans in the works. Such a fun day except the 6 hour drive home. We had several heavy rain storms to go thru and made stops along the way to make sure the car was tightened down on the trailer.

Here are some pic from the delivery day

Factory Five is always kid friendly. Andy and Kali had a great time checking out all the cars. Crazy how low the GTM is. Kali is about 52" and towers over the GTM.

Kali cant decide which one she likes best and Andy loves the 818

Congrats! What about wipers and bumpers? Is NY a state that requires them for registration?

Finally Made it home and unloading begins. I carried the boxes into the garage then with the help of some neighbors we moved the frame and body into the garage.

We completed the inventory and everything looks like it is there. Few things on back order but that wont slow us down. Tristan came home from is 2 week camping trip and began helping get the body off.

Again neighbors to the rescue. 4 of us took the body off and set it aside. Next is the fun part drilling 1000s of rivit holes. Tristan helped out again and we used every clecko I had holding everything together. We started with the driver side foot box. The very front panel goes up against a steel plate so it is most logical place to start.

New York requires Bumpers and the quick jacks qualify for that. I have a hand operated wiper from Speedway that also meets the requirement. The wiper just clamps on and can be taken off after inspection and put back on for those sudden rain storms

Could I hear some more about this hand operated wiper please?
I need a wiper to pass initial inspection in Alabama and then I intend to get rid of it. Is yours a permanent mount or can you take it on and off?

Hey thanks Stack! Does that mounting piece clip directly onto the FFR windshield frame or do you have to make some sort of modification?

it comes with a rubber insert inside the clamp. It will clamp right on with no modifications

Great. Just ordered. I had a conversation last week with the state inspector about if he would allow a hand operated wiper and he indicated he would. Perfect timing to see this in your thread.

    Mark-

Great fun seeing your kids enjoying themselves at the Factory! I love the fact that your kids are taking part in your build; those memories will last forever!

Best of luck as you begin getting the project going. Lots of smart capable folks here to help whenever it is needed.

    Regards,

    Steve

The build continues after a week off for vacation. Received some parts from Mike Everson and mark over at Breeze. All of the aluminum panels have been fitted and drilled. I may send out for powder coat in 2 batches so i can get back to work on the front of the car. Waiting on a FFmetal battery box to send out the rear trunk floor sections. I was able to mock up the front suspension and steering rack. Waiting on hubs from FFR so i can do the brakes. IRS center section is in and fuel tank is mocked up. Running the mustang pedal box assembly and power brakes. So need my foot box panels coated asap for mounting.

    More to come

I was able to get all the sheet metal out for powder coating on Monday. Of course i missed a couple panels that i will need to drop off today. I was quoted $300 for all of them with a 7 day turn around.

While I had some downtime i started working on wiring. Still missing parts for the front and rear suspension so trying to keep busy. I just routed them temporary until i have the aluminum back. I used my new label maker to wire wrap the wiring. Think it looks nicer then the stickers that were on there.

Parts keep showing up everyday. This came today Thanx Mike Forte. (Carburetor is for demo purpose only)

Lets meet up sometime. I took it over to Accurate Powder coating in the city. I just hauled it all down there and opened the back of the van and he asked the color and whatnot. Then said $300. I was expecting more as I thought wareaglescout got a good deal at $800.

I received the powder coated panels back in a little over a week. Total bill was $320 for the 80 panels i brought in. They charged $4 per piece big or small. No the fun job of remembering where they go

I really like the powder coating color -- it really looks sharp!

You are also making pretty solid progress.

I have been meaning to comment on your son though. Aren't you setting him up for a lifetime of disappointment getting him to be a Bill's fan this young? ;-o)

I have been enjoying following along.

    Regards,

    Steve
