Gave my wife a first start deadline of my 53rd birthday last Saturday. I was ready to go about six days before, but my bride wanted me to wait....gave me an opportunity to triple check wiring, coolant and fluid leaks, etc. - but hard not to turn the key. She (Medusa) started up, rough at that - but no major leaks, fires or anything to catastrophic. The motor is a fuel injected 347 with 10 degrees of timing and I am using a Pro-M engine management system (ECU). It kept throwing a distributor Hal sensor or shutter OB2 code for my new Davis distributor. Apparently these two components in concert sense cam position and trigger firing. According to Pro-M, seems a lot of aftermarket shutters are out of tolerance and most Hal's effect sensors are junk. I am told the Ford distributor has the best sensor and its shutter is to specs. Pulled my shutter and the eight rotating fingers were measured significantly out of tolerances. New shutter from Pro-M and Ford OEM stator ordered. Guess I will have the best of both worlds - sexier looking distributor housing and better internals. Will keep you posted - technical issues uploading video & pics, but was great birthday!
