Thought I would share more progress on chassis 720. I will have a blog update soon on more of the specifics and better pics.

After much research on pedal options from Wilwood and the like, my father decided on fabricating the pedal box so we could have a more custom fit. The electric steering unit will be inside the modified foot-box above the pedals, plans are in the works for an access hatch in case of replacement or service.

Initial parts cut and much 'figuring' for pedal ratios etc.

It's a Unisteer, 8052360 is the part number I believe. 360W universal kit. Also installing part 540160, a variable assist module so we can adjust the amount of assist if/when required.

Update from the weekend, mocking up the new Ididit steering column (model 1011160010, universal with turning signal stock). This setup will also have an NRG quick release for easier seating etc. Also got a chance to set the T56 in it's home for the first time, the good news is that the transmission mounting tab still aligns well even with the engine pushed forward.

The driver and passengers compartments continue to grow. Now that the engine is pushed forward, we can narrow the transmission tunnel creating more width for seats, legs etc.

Aaaaand some more shots, if anyone is interested.

Test fitting myself in the car (6'4", 280lbs), things are getting less and less claustrophobic every week. The seat has now been moved back thanks to some repositioning of the frame members at the lower end of the seat, as well a substantial amount of width has been added so we can get the Corbeau XL 22" wide leather seats installed. The additional width is achieved by the engine move forward and the narrowing of the transmission tunnel, as well there is a notch cut out of the left hand frame member at my left knee (when seated) for more comfort.

Things still look a little messy, still lots of grinding and a final frame paint treatment to go before we can start focusing on completion of the go-kart phase.

The Ididit steering column is a quality piece, also gives us a horn and multi-stalk for turn signals and brights-toggle


The Ididit column will be paired with an NRG bearing quick release so the wheel can be removed for getting in and out easily.

New 'front' of the drivers foot box. Significantly wider and deeper to make room for my legs. Again, messy at this stage, but should clean up really well.

We certainly are. The one little bit of advice I'd render is if you don't have one already, start shopping for an old used stomp shear from Pexto or the like. More so than anything else, that tool allowed me to move forward with the one-off aluminum panel work in an efficient manner. Keep the photos coming!

Thanks! - yes, we may even consider building a simple break and shear setup in the shop we have now. Going to be lots of custom panels for sure.

Pedals are coming together nicely. The mill was a good investment.

Right now the steel is coated in POR, once it's fully cured I may sand it out and use a hammer-tone paint for added effect.
