    Parking brake, a little different

    So, for the ongoing theme of making more room in the Gen 2 (man....wish I had known the Gen 3 was coming). We have decided to move the parking brake off of the transmission tunnel and go with a pull handle on the dash.
    The operation is simple, pull to engage and twist to release. The handle will be either leather wrapped or wood/metal matching our dash. Thought you might like to see it. One of our fabrication projects over the winter.

    cool idea. check out the parking brake handle and mechanism on the original jeeps for inspiration if you haven't already. I've always liked how that works. (bought and restored a 1942 Ford GPW as my first truly big car-related project).

    My '72 Plymouth valiant had a setup like this it was my first car (fond memories) it was a standard shift 3 speed on the column. It was a perfect setup for hill stops, the mounting location was on the left of the steering wheel just below the dash. my only complaint with it there was you did bump your knees on it if it was set as you entered / exited the car.

    Yeah - still working on final position on the dash for the handle so it doesn't become a pain. Thinking lower right hand side. We have chopped the transmission tunnel to narrow it significantly and open up more room for legs and wide seats - should help in the positioning of this brake handle.

    I want to keep the tunnel area clear for elbows and legs. This will get another thing off the floor. Every inch counts.

    Parking brake assembled - The burled walnut should match the dash quite well, more refinement on the handle will be required as the epoxy coat is not quite 'show quality'.
