Wow, that chassis looks incredible. I thought if I ever built another kit car, it would be a GT40, but this Gen 3 Coupe changes that completely.

Also, FFR should hold a contest to see who guesses the number of triangles on the "R" chassis; give the winner a few t-shirts and a gift certificate.

Yeah, definitely 48. 48 triangles. Gotta watch Wapner.

Lookin' good, John. Doing my chassis in white, as the lighter color better facilitates the ability to monitor chassis stress. Can't wait to begin the build!

    Rolling by Tuesday?

When those guys get rocking, they really move. It felt like I had the aluminium riveted, the wheels, engine, brakes and transmission in on the first day. It's all relative to my glacial speed of progress.

Our Gen II R coupes look like ancient technology compared to the new R model don't they. I am planning to take my coupe off the road this year and make it a dedicated race car. I am also going to work on getting a NASA competition license this year as well. It looks like the coupe fits well into ST2 so I am going to build my car to that class as well.

I am really looking forward to your build, John. Maybe someday I'll get to race with you in our coupes.

Did the new R chassis lose the 4" main-tubes?
That white chassis looks pretty good. How much stiffer is the new frame with all of the new cross-bracing? (did the old one really flex?)

Yes, the 4" tubes are gone and the chassis is 7-10 times stiffer since adopting the new truss/space frame style chassis. Also, we've seen and sat in the completed car and rolling chassis at Cruising The Emerald Coast on their way back from SEMA and they were amazing.

    1. It has a lot more room than the old model and even fit my 6'4" brother with his Gun Boat size 15 feet and 3'0" legs.
    2. Foot room is excellent compared to the MK-4 and old Type-65!
    3. Once he got in the chassis he fit quite well; however, it was a bit tough for him to get in and out since he's not very flexible.
    4. If you are a big dude, you likely can fit in the new coupe.

This is a major step forward and the car is really something to be seen & I hope to build one in 3-5 years.

    John-

Tell Mark that he needs to put a website and a phone number on his T-shirts!

I have been, and will continue to, watch on and off through the weekend. Football and car building; does it get any better?

    Regards,

Lots of progress made yesterday. We got the engine in place to check dry sump tank placement, rear end in, rear suspension hung and finger tight, working on front suspension. The boys drilled a bunch of panels already. We even put the seat in and I sat in it!! lots of room, I will move the seat up for sure heh

The live stream link is here https://www.youtube.com/user/ffr48/live

YouTube does different things with past live stream links, allows you to embed to them directly but does not work for New live streams so you have to go to the link above for the latest live now link.

We will do half day tomorrow (Tuesday) and do a recap at the end explaining all that was done these past 3.5 days. I have to go back to NH and will be down again Jan 14-16 weekend.
