Header alignment
So after about ten years of enjoying our two mkII's and being off this forum asking tons of questions I'm back for a question.
put a set of elderbrock performer heads on a 5.0 ( from a 95 mustang) and bought 4 into 4 headers and side pipes. put heads on and the headers on and the are about a inch high
in the cut out of body where sidepipes bolt up. left to right they look lined up good. Does any one make wedge type gaskets for header to heads. Or something to angle them down a bit. Thought about lower engine down a little with motor mounts but not sure about that, cant have oil pan lower than frame. Any one have any ideas.
Thanks Dan

I'm not aware of any wedge options at the head. Wedges are available however for the header to sidepipe connection. http://www.breezeautomotive.com/search.php?search=wedge. Normally they're used to move the pipe in/out along the side of the body, but I've also seen them used to angle the side pipe up or down at the header.
But having said that, two comments: (1) The standard body cutouts are intentionally undersize. They need to be trimmed for 4-into-4 installations. Is your conclusion that the headers are too high based on the standard cutout? (2) The pipes angle down naturally. The amount the headers appear high may not be as much as you think. This is what my first fit looked like on #7750 before any body trimming. Pretty normal.
Final trim and completely assembled. When fit for the pipe, some of the top of the header still appears to be above the opening.
You have this posted twice BTW. Only answering on this one.

We thought of cutting body out but car is painted but that might be only option. It does look just like yours. I posted this twice and don't know how to delete other one.

It's nerve-racking trimming a painted body. But that's what you need to do. I wouldn't wedge it for that reason alone. Use something low impact. I use a sanding drum in a Dremel. It cuts the glass very easily and won't chip your paint. Outline where you need to trim with tape, and take it slow and easy. Good luck!
