    CTSV Brembo brake swap

Has anyone used the CTSV Brembo front brake swap kit for Subaru hubs. Been looking at it for the fronts and STI in the rear but they say you have to grind the top of the caliber down to clear 17 inch rims or run 18 inch rims. I really like the setup just wanted to get everyones opions on who may have tried it pros cons. Thanks.

    Squid,
Seeing your post, I investigated. No one on this forum has talked about the CTSV swap before.
I am using heavy OEM impreza front calipers on all four wheels. So this is a swap that can save me a bunch of un-sprung weight.
The OEM impreza, Subaru 4 pot, brembo, willwood, and now CTSV all have about the same size pistons. So the same squeezing force per pedal force.
The big advantage I see for me is the coast and weight.
The disadvantage of the CTSV kit is requiring 18" wheels.

What is the best price you have found for the calipers?
Rockauto is $127.79 each. I think that is a great price.

That's about $120 cheaper than what I paid for my reman'd Subaru 4 pot calipers from Rock Auto. There is no core charge either, that's a damn good deal!

With some work anything will fit, why not look at the Camaro 4 pot? Not as cool as the 6 pot but would think they would be more than adequate. I have a new set here if you need measurements.

Fantastic! Ant idea how you have to grind to fit in a 17" wheel?

    Done it!

I have done the CTS-V Brembo swap on the front and rear of my 818R. I do not have the car running yet but the spindles w/ brakes are complete. Very impressed with the setup and the price. They fit the FFR 17" wheels using a 3mm spacer. The FFR 18" rears fit with plenty of room. These brakes are huge! I ran the calculations and they provide a near perfect balance front to rear and require only 44 lbs of pedal pressure under max deceleration. I am using the Wilwood pedal setup and staggered master cylinders, 3/4" front, 13/16" rear.

I had to fabricate custom rear brackets to fit the Cadillac ATS-V Brembo calipers.

Same brakes? These are the older CTS-V four pots, not the newer 6 pot ones AFAIK.

I'm confused. Did you use the CTS-V or the ATS-V...or are they the same?

I think people need to clarify if they're using CTSV v1 or V2 brakes. I know several people like the Version 1 (v1) CTS V brakes as an upgrade.

Stock Legacy, left, Sumitomo (simliar to JDM 4 pot 06/07 4 pot), and V1 CTS-V

The CTS-v version 2 (V2) are the 6 piston and much different in size. The ATS-V is the same as the V2 CTS-V.

The CTS-V gen 1 and gen2 calipers are not the same as the ATS-V calipers. They are very similar but are different GM part numbers. The kit is designed to use ATS-V calipers.

Here are the instructions they ship with the kit, part numbers and descriptions are on pg5.

Cool. Didn't know there was an actual kit. I thought most people did it DIY. I was reading a cadillac forum today at lunch and it showed different pics for the ATS-V calipers that looks different than the pics you posted.

If I understand what Hobby did was to use the kit for the Front and built special brackets for the rear. Is there any pictures of this? Does the brackets still require the GMC mounting kit? As the wheel spacers push the wheels out, is the wheel selection impacted?

Pics of front and rear spindle assemblies

Here is the front spindle assembly with the ATS-V Brembo calipers. The fronts use the CTS-V Brake Swap kit to mount them.

    front1.jpgfront2.jpg

Here is the rear spindle with the same ATS-V Brembo calipers. The rear did require DIY mounting brackets be made.

The front kit is complete, no other mounting parts are required.

Depends on your wheel selection. As I said the FFR 17" wheels fit using a small 3mm spacer. I used a 5mm for extra room.

Looking at this picture, how do you get the long bolt in as well as the two arms?

The angle of the pic does not show the amount of room between the caliper and spindle. The lower bolt slides in fine.

Race cars don't usually have parking brakes

I used the same STI rotors on the front and rear so there is no inner drum setup for the parking brake.
Great thing about my setup is the front and rear use the same rotors, pads and calipers. Makes stocking spares super easy and cheap!

I would prefer to have one in a racecar. If you have a complete brake failure on track, it can at least slow you down a bit and reduce overall damage and/or provide more time for action.

I drive mine on the street a lot so need a working parking brake. I also agree that it's a great backup on the track.

I do like the CTSV brake idea though! I bet you could come up with an alternative to an e-brake like a line-locker or something like that. It would work better as a parking brake than an "emergency" brake though, since it would be hydraulically actuated.

could probably use willwood hats and order a set of there rotors that size. would be cheaper in the long run when you need rotors replace.
