    Wheel wells rubbing?

I just wanted to see who else has noticed this. I am running 265's so a little bigger and rub on both the top and the inside of the wheel wells. I am currently modifying them to gain clearance. If you haven't noticed I would suggest checking both the top and inboard side.

    Nolan,
235f and 255r. I had fender rubs on all 4 corners during autocross.
Ride height, springs, and camber changes to fix it.
I don't have wheel wells installed.

Have you done a track day yet?

    Like hindsight said below.
During 50mph right hand autocross sweeper with about 90 degree steering input. We get a little left front rub going thrrough a dip for a storm sewer.

I assume you are talking about rear well liners? I have had to make my own wheel well liners for this reason, and because the fronts simply didn't fit well at all. I did both front and rear. It takes a LOT of time. I just wrapped up the fronts, and I have part of one rear done. In the rear, I moved them up higher for better clearance.

I still have tire rub issues in the front on the fiberglass fender with 235 tires.

Does it rub on the fiberglass or on the alu splash guards?

Make sure you are not hitting the frame. I have had to add rack limiters so this does not happen on sharp turns.

Mine rub turning in the front, you need to trim the fender to nose bolt flange or bad juju can occur when the tire catches it, full lock is an issue as Tom indicated above. in the rear, you have to trim and adjust the wheel wells, they get rubbed up on bad bumbs

I want to see more of the front bumper. Looks like the porsche 918 from that angle.

Will be interesting to see how long the took hook lasts as there is no real support (even though you added more) to support the weight of car and any force upwards looks like a problem also.

I feel that everyone should share what ride height and springs they're running when stating if they're rubbing or not. Sixstar has a lot of tire stuffed in there, but I'd imagine he's not running 250f/350r like S guys, or 4.5" ride height.

Fact. 350# front and 550# rear. S height. No bars. LOTS of preload to get the corner balance right.

Can you adjust preload independent from ride height?

    Canadian,
you have the 818s springs backwards.
Manual says "The front springs are 350lb, and the rear springs are 275lb."

I'm running 350F and 500R with 4.5 ride height with occupants.
    235/40/17F 255/40/17F all rims 9" 45et with 15mm spacers on rear.
40mm wider track on LCR and UCR, 1" taller upper ball joint.
    No anti roll bars.
-1/2 deg camber all round 4.5 ride height. -2.5 deg camber at 2" compression.
This picture is a 1.1 to 1.2 G right turn with 300# driver only.

    rightturn.jpg

I suspect when we add aero components this year, we may need to got to anti roll bar or stiffer spring in front.
Mitch, do you know what corner this is?

My mistake, been awhile since I've looked at the manual. I'm actually running 350f/500r to start as it's been working well for many.

Agree on the force upward. Upward force on the entire front end is an issue. Be great to see any front tow options that are "Sure Things." My bars go under the radiator and attach to the chassis under the steering rack. I think that takes care of a straight pull. Angles and Ups or Downs are more risky to be sure. How do builders with a splitter manage a front tow if they can't get a hook to the chassis without the tow line rubbing against the splitter and placing upper pressure on the entire front end?

Thanks for the observation and the entire wheel well conversation.

I have not yet looked under the hood in a while to see where you could attach something, but another option for a tow hook might be similar to the FFR challenge roadsters that have the tow hook sticking up through the hood.

    Similar to this:

    towhook.jpg

I also welded chassis tie downs to the frame just inside the front wheels, angled slightly downward. I would be OK with using those to tie the car down, but not towing.

That's what I had in mind. Therefore, in order to prevent wheel well rubbing (staying in sync with thread's purpose) how did you manage to add a TON of pre-load and still ended up at 4.5" ride height? I am at 4.5" with NO pre-load at all. If I add any, I will drop ride height, causing more possible rubbing. See where I'm getting at.

    I don't actually

Adding preload (tightening the perch to the spring) will raise that corner and put more weight on that corner since the spring is 'pushing down' harder onto the wheel. Clear as mud?

I should also clarify that my suspension is in the S holes but I have no clue what my ride height is right now. I could measure when I get home.

Oh sorry man, I thought you said your ride height was 4.5. That's why you didn't see where I was going. I must have misread again and thought someone else was you, or the other way around.

Yes, S holes. I had it all set up in the R holes at SEMA and with my tire combination it was WAY too low.

Bob, that looks like entering 21 at the exit of the Sinkhole. You and Michael planning a to come down for a few track days?

I am running 3.5 R right height Frt, 2.5* camber, 6*caster 235/40X17 BFG R1S tires on 17X8" wheel 40mm offset no spacer, currently 300# frt 500# rear springs.
I have moved the bottom trailing edge of the front fender out 1.5" which has increased the tire clearance at the top of the wheel opening 3/8". I still have a slight tire rub on the RF but it is not a concern. 3-4 LS Frt 818.jpgRS 818.jpg

    Hey Thanks Mitch,
Yes, We are hoping to do many track days this summer. Our car is morphing into an 818R. (door bars this spring)

I'm running 40mm wider track width to prevent inside rub on the inside of front tire. I can go full lock to lock with no rack limiters. As a side effect, I get fender rub if I drop the nose. Might need to pull them back in to drop the car lower to the track.

Need to visit and talk to you about Michael's goal this season.
