    DIY transmission shim ideas??

I'm looking at starting my engine up for the first time tommorow and a possible go cart early next week. I'm sure I will need transmission shims to get my pinion angle correct. I remember seeing a post from someone about fabricating 1/4" shims from materials obtained from Home Depot or lowes. Anyone have any ideas they would like to share?

Good luck with your first start tomorrow. I am planning next weekend...same engine BTW. Let us know how it goes. Smoothly I hope.

As for shims, you may know that Mike Forte sells light weight transmission shims in 1/4" thickness and mine took 2.

Mine took a little more. Started with 3/4", ended up with 7/8".

    Here is my process... http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showt...nsmission-shim

I realize that mike sells some. I was looking for something I could fab up. I will probably grab some 1/4" stock and have at it.

Grab a stack of washers to use as your test shims. Once you have the correct thickness you can go back and make solid shims or not bother.
