A Impreza WRX has a turbo and OEM 230hp with easy potential to raise the HP.

The Impreza 2.5I NA (normally aspirated) OEM 160 HP and difficult to bump the horse power.

The 160HP is plenty for normal driving. Most guys on here are going with the turbo for a spirited driving experience.

The plus side on the normally aspirated:

Slightly Less complicated-no turbo-no intercooler -stock ic placement 818 lacks good air flow.

Less weight-no turbo no ic no need for awic(quite a few guys went this route with the turbo motor)

Check me on this one: I believe the na motor is single overhead cam and the turbo models are DOHC.

    That's all I got hope this helps.....Walt

And if you throw in WRX - STI there are more differences. Engine/Transmission....

If I ever build a 818C for myself it will have a N/A motor. Plenty for such a light car and a lot less stuff to go wrong, IMO.

The main reason I went with the H6 EZ36 is its NA an has 250hp in stock trim. Like Wallace said a lot less stuff to go wrong. The awesome 6cyl sound is a bonus .

You are correct, the 2.5I NA one has on cam on each side of the engine. But it still has 4 valve per cylinder.

We bought this NA car as a donor. But decided it was to nice to tear it apart.

I think I built my NA in less time then it takes most others to install and burp their cooling system. 15-20 hours a week for three months and done.

It also makes slightly more horsepower/torque than a current gen Miata, but weighs nearly 550lbs less.
