Body on #8955 for first time.

The first fit trial last week revealed some trimming of the rear lower rear trunk panel needed 3/4" taken off, and the rear lower corners of the body valence needed 1" scooped out to allow the body to go forward without hitting the gas tank. The body slipped on without too much coercion last night. This is the first time I am attempting to post pictures, thank you Phileas_fogg. I'll have to download videos off the phone with a cable, pics take forever from phone

    Looks great congrats!!
Just curious #8955 would indicate an MK4 but I thought the black body cars were MK3. Am I missing something?

It's the FIA bodies which are black.
The chassis is the same for both car models. (FIA/289 & 427/Roadster Styles)

Thanks, I am looking forward to driving it, but going to take the time to do it right. Still having a difficult time finding the right shade of burgandy. My wife and I are stopping to look at everything we see in parking and ar lots.

    PeteH,

That's looking good ! I am a bit ahead of you as I put the body on about a year ago, slowly getting ready for paint. I have been driving around the Neighborhood. How long ago did the FIA kit arrive?

We picked it up Sept 10th 16 from FF in Wareham. Wife & I made a marathon road trip out of it from NW Ohio. Started assembly the following week. Hope to fit hood, doors, trunk and windshield soon to see how everything aligns, that will be the most challenging part I think. The fill/block process will be the somewhat easier part. I am hoping to have it ready for paint by next fall. I'll do the painting/wetsand/buff process and hope to have next winter for final assembly. When the weather breaks in early 2018, I'll be retired and ready to enjoy!! That is if all goes well as planned.

Congrats on the fitting. I've spent several hours this weekend trying to finagle mine into position without luck. Didn't cut back as much on the lower panel, nor did I scoop the lower body. That will definitely need to be done. Do you have the oil cooler? If so, how did that work out? Might be able to adjust the angle to better match the opening as it is going on but it's hanging up there as well.

Any additional photos or tips would be helpful!

I do not have an oil cooler. I'm just fitting door latches, had to make some plates welded to the frame tube. Now that they're anchored I can finalize the door gaps and starting to fill door edges to match adjacent panels with fiberglass resin to start, finish with Rage bondo. I'll upload some pics soon.
