Check with Mike Forte.

As Ollie said, check with Mike. He built my 289 motor off a 1965 block. We just did the first start on Saturday. Runs great.
Mark from Breeze also has a 289 motor ready to be rebuilt on his website.
Clean blocks seem to be getting harder and harder to find....

Consider searching craigs list for an old car or truck with the right engine. Then you'll have a clean title and bill of sale. And you'll have all the nuts, bolts, and brackets you might need.
Remember that Ford is not like Chevy. There is no such thing as a numbers matching Ford.

Yes, I did the turnkey option with the TKO-600. Cost me a little bit more going with the vintage block since there was a bit more machining, but it was worth it. Engine makes just over 340 hp.

Where in Mass are you located?

Sounds fantastic!!
Haven't been through that yet, but the folks at DEP verified my block casting number meets the requirements, so hopefully that goes smoothly.
Give Mike a call, see what he says. He's been a huge help, that's him in the video tuning the engine.

Jwebb,
You may also want to look on Ebay, Craig's List, local news paper or local wrecking yards for a complete running old car because a friend of mine just bought an FE-390 Powered 1960's T-Bird just to get the motor for his next build. I think he paid between $3,500-$4,500 for it and drove it home to boot. In addition, please know that I am not saying to look for an FE-Motor or 385 series engine, but finding a power plant from the desired era.
Examples:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1966-Mercury...VYrGav&vxp=mtr

Also, if you see something within 30-45 miles of N.O.L.A. then let me know because I don't mind making a milk run for you because that is what we do on this forum.
Note: That friend is Hottrodder427 on this forum.
Good Luck!
Steve

Hi Jwebb. I'm just south of you in Somers. I got my kit in March. You should stop by so we can talk about the great local support I've found just in our area. I got a 1969 block being stroked to 331 which should be finished soon. Welcome to the craziness.
Mine is a roller. It's nice to be able to roll it in and out of the garage when the suns out. I'm running the fuel lines now.
I got my Moser rearend from Fortes. I saved some cash on shipping by picking it. The banana bracket took some work fitting it and then I had it welded by Reliable Welding for $70. F5 has a Moser with bracket already mounted. My motor is at a local builder (Eastwoods) waiting in line for assembly. I'll send you a PM with my phone number if you ever want to stop by. I'd show you the cost of things that I purchased. I work on it daily since I' m retired.
