Congrats to Factory Five Racers at UTCC 2017!!

More than a decade ago I got a call from Dan Lawson as he had just climbed out of the cockpit of his Factory Five Challenge car having completed the inaugural 25 hours of Thunderhill endurance race. Dan was the event’s very first entrant, a great racer, and a good friend. We’ve had Factory Five cars in that race and so many others over the years. That phone call from an emotional Dan Lawson meant the world to me and it was a moment I’ll never forget.

Today two Factory Five cars finished in the top ten of the Ultimate Track Car Challenge and two others ran close behind! It is one of the best days ever for Factory Five at the track and for me at the helm of this company and I could not be more proud!

John George ran an impressive 1:58.985 in his new Gen 3 Type 65 Coupe-R and Wayne Presley reeled in a top ten finish with his blistering 1:59.900 in our Factory Five 818R. Wayne’s sub-two minute time puts the 818R on the map against cars costing literally 10x more! John’s time puts the world on notice that the Gen 3 Coupe is a world-class sportscar and as an all-new design, it’s still only at the headwaters of an amazing performance envelope. Customer Trevor Poquette blasted a 2:01.808 in his Mk4 Roadster and customer Austin Nally pushed his FFR Challenge car to a 2:05.563 best lap. These four cars and drivers are running serious fast times in conditions that were less than perfect (super hot). Trevor is going to run the races in NASA tomorrow while customers gather for the Hyperfest event. Our crew thinks he has a good shot at cracking the two minute mark in his Mk4 if the heat backs off!

People compare FFR to other kit cars, but the funny thing is that I never see any of them on the track at speed.. maybe an odd ball custom here and there, but there is no replica company that can run with our dogs and certainly not racing wheel-to-wheel. But it’s not just the cars that I’m so proud of. The company has a commitment to racing that is unmatched in our business and MOST importantly, we’ve attracted and grown with the most passionate customers, racers, and builders in the world. Our Factory Five community continues to share data, tips, set-ups and race info. Our community is like no other and racing shines the light on that perhaps best!

Congrats to drivers John, Wayne, Trevor, and Austin! Huge thanks to Mark and Brendan Dougherty, Jim Schenck, Chris Ronni, Jeff Collins and the boys from Whitby, and everyone who helped today!

Hope everyone has a blast at the HyperFest tomorrow as I attend my daughter’s college graduation! I know right now Dan Lawson is smiling down from heaven and Dick Smith is nodding in approval from the same vantage point!
