Wilwood Rear Disc Install Question

Okay guys, here's the first of many rookie questions to come. I'm preparing to start installing my FFR purchased Wilwood rear brakes on my FFR purchased Moser 8.8 rear end and it looks like a pretty straight forward task. However, the Wilwood instructions say to pull the axle shafts and based on the design of the brackets provided, I'm doubting that I need to do that. It looks like I should easily be able to assemble the brakes with the shafts place. Am I missing something?

Nope, your thinking is good. Axles do not need to come out. Brackets slip right on. Just did this a short while back on the same setup... Wilwood 12.19 and Moser 8.8.

Took me a while to get the shims right for centering. Use patience and you'll get it.

I was able to install the FFR Wilwood rear brakes without removing the axle shafts. I am using the Moser 8.8 axle. I think the instructions cover different axles, brands, etc. X2 on the shims.

I got the brakes installed on the rear axle today. It took some time to get the rotor centered and a few more shims than I expected, but everything is lined up.





I also got the rear cover swapped out.

I was looking at some of the finished cars and noticed that the rear calipers are clocked differently than what my directions showed. I looked at the directions again and then looked at the directions posted on FFRs parts site and they are definitely different. Will I have issues with mine installed at the 11 o'clock position vs. the 7 o'clock position?

The Wilwood drawing is correct for the current parts being supplied. You'd never be able to install the brackets using the FFR drawing. The 8.8 brake mount flange holes are offset with the lower holes being more narrow.

There's only one way they can be installed as long as you have the RH and LH brackets on the correct side of the axle and the step in the bracket oriented inboard.

I set mine up at roughly 11:00 / 1:00 o'clock and the return spring on the parking brake would rub on the fender well. That wasn't a problem for me as I had to cut out the inner fender well for tire clearance anyway.
