    Ca sb100 and title transfer

If you have a car already titled in another state and try bringing into CA, is there any need to think about sb100?

I assume, when the car is already a 1965, there is no need to get the sb100?

I would assume there could be issues with the DMV inspection before they transfer it to CA

Its a f5r roadster. I am just pre-planning (worrying) about issues that will come up trying to change it to CA title. I was just thinking..... Could they say no this car is not a 65 for some stupid reason, and you need smog and all the rest.???

Sorry should have stated f5r car in the first post

There is a variant of the SPCNS registration, that needs to be completed to transfer it into California. It's not difficult but a little time consuming. I'll try and look it up for you over the next few days.

Just a little feedback on bringing a 'titled' car from another state to Cali - I did this 3 years ago - private sale of a Cobra 'replica' from a guy in Arizona - IT CAN BE DONE - BUT TIME CONSUMING AND YOU'LL GET VERY FRUSTRATED BY THE DMV staff due to their lack of CONSISTENT knowledge of the steps involved.
The SB-100 Cert can be attained - I'll check my notes, but these are the steps as I recall:
    1. Gather any/all paperwork from the previous owner - Titles, Registration, Bill of Sale, receipts of the build, MSO - manufactures statement of origin, etc (*put it in a 3-ring binder to keep everything together AND track YOUR paper trail throughout this process) **Mine had an ARIZONA TITLE stating the car was a 1965 AC COBRA - ***RED FLAG with CALI DMV - it's not an original and can't be re-registered as one - it's either a KIT CAR or SPCN car - I went with SPCN - got my SB-100 Cert
    2. Schedule an appointment with DMV to register your car and pay your taxes
2a. VERY Important at this time you will make a request for your SB-100 Certificate application (*if the DMV tech gives you that 'glazed-look' KINDLY recommend that the Main DMV Branch on Broadway in Sacramento has a 'specialist' that knows the process and that branch is the one that issues the SB-100 Certificate application) **NOTING that this vehicle is SPCN car - Not an AC COBRA or COBRA This application will be mailed to you in approx 2-3 weeks depending on work load. This 'pre-app' will have a NUMBER that you will have to have PRIOR to your CHP and BARR appt.
2b. Be sure to get your CHP Vin Verification form at this DMV appointment (*you'll need this to schedule your appointment for the CHP Vin Verification/Vin Assignment date at the Inspection station in Auburn, CA). It's at this appointment that they will inspect the car for the appropriate VIN stamp(s) on various locations on your car. They will research VIN # for salvage, stolen, re-construction abstracts associated with your VIN If all goes well the CHP tech give you the SB-100 sticker.
2c. Get your SB-100 application in the mail and schedule your CHP Vin/Safety check
    3. Go to your CHP appointment - make sure headlights, blinkers, e-brake and gauges work. Mine DID NOT have windshield wipers, back-up light or front license plate holder and I passed!!! (*I've heard horror stories, but mine passed)
3a. CHP tech will sign-off VIN / Safety check - engrave new VIN # on several locations on your car and give you your SB-100 label to be placed on your engine firewall
    4. Schedule your BARR inspection (*I went to American River Jr. College) . You call them - Inform them you have started your DMV Registration Process, COMPLETED/PASSED your CHP VIN/Safety check and have the SB-100)
    5. At the BARR Inspection - the inspection tech/instructor will verify PVC and Carb hoses are correct and sign off
    6. Go back to DMV to finalize your registration process
    7. Whole process for me took 2-months only because I was doing it in the Fall and rainy days prevented me from getting an appointment to CHP.

ALL said - There IS a PROCESS - YOU JUST NEED TO BE PATIENT!!!!
    Best of Luck!!!!!
