Unless you're using a 9" rear, I'd be suspicious of the "fits most other models" statement. If you're using an 8.8" rear, you can get replacement vents from several sources. They won't be polished though!

    Papa,

I used the following Spectre Breather hose clamped to a NPT Barbed brass hose fitting that comes out of the top of my left axel tube:

    https://www.spectreperformance.com/s...aspx?prod=3995

It's stainless steel mesh and the hose barb goes well up into the breather; however, I don't have pics of it to show you.

Anyone know the typical size/thread of the fitting in the axle tubes on an 8.8? To clarify, I have a Moser 8.8 that doesn't have a fitting for the breather. Or should I just order and screw in one of these: http://www.americanmuscle.com/ford-8...bolt-8614.html

The Moser axle comes with a 1/4 NPT vent hole and a brass hose fitting. I bought the 4R3Z4022AA vent from American Muscle, but it has a 7/16-20 (-4AN) thread.

Yes, the Moser vent hole is different from the standard 8.8. Remember, Moser uses bigger axle tubes.

Bought a 916144 adapter from Earls / Summit and everything is good.

Thanks Boyd! I'd seen your post at one time or another and couldn't find it. I ordered the same Earl's fitting in black and will use the polished vent. I didn't want to run a piece of tubing for the vent and this solution will work and look good. I suppose if I were going to track the car, the better solution would be something like Steve suggested, but for street use, I think I'll be fine.

It took some convincing myself to accept that my 1/2" wide opening on my Moser 8.8 is actually 1/4" NPT, but that is the case as the male 1/4" NPT o.d. is 0.504" -- totally intuitive.

Thanks, guys. I ended up ordering one of these. I'll see if it works out.

It is when you remember that NPT is a "pipe" designation and pipe is measured by the I.D. Nothing against the plumbers out there

Factories have done it this way for many years. The TKO trannys have the same style vent mounted. I dont see an issue with it. Glad I could help.
