    Stebru84 South east PA 818s #248 build {FOR SALE}

FOR SALE THREAD: WITH CONTACT INFO
    https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/show...ed-and-Insured

Hello all, I'm starting this thread a little late, I spent more time in the garage than on the computer.
I Picked up my 818 on Oct 24th 2014. I started the tear down of my 2007 R-Titled Wrx about a month earlier and had it out of the way just in time.

The donor has ~62k on it. It was crashed hard in the front and rebuilt by a local Subaru chop shop outside Allentown then sold (more on this will come). I bought off cregs list shortly after placing my 818 order it and used it for nearly a year as an extra car, fixing little things and made sure I had a good drive train to start with.

    IMG_20141006_162435.jpgIMG_20141003_152314.jpgIMG_20141003_152330.jpgIMG_20141003_154303.jpgIMG_20141003_162102.jpgIMG_20141004_114907.jpgIMG_20141004_182449.jpgIMG_20141006_162341.jpgIMG_20141006_162428.jpg

The drive train will go in stock and fairly un-touched, for now. I'll worry about finishing the build by spring so I can enjoy it. Next winter the engine and trans will get some power upgrades and a LSD.

Some of the issues I encountered, bent lateral link, and nearly destroying the bushings trying to get that long bolt out.

The one armed bandit that rebuilt this car must have sold off the 4/2pot brakes and put random, mismatched front calipers on it. Thankfully I picked up a matching set on ebay for cheap. They should be enough for such a light weight car.

    IMG_20141024_085200.jpgIMG_20141024_085254.jpgIMG_20141024_085334.jpgIMG_20141024_090931.jpgIMG_20141024_092807.jpgIMG_20141024_160109.jpgIMG_20141028_155928.jpgIMG_20141028_183154.jpg

Made the long drive from the philly area and back in one day to pick up the chassis.

I had one bad wheel bearing so it gave me a good reason to buy a press and replace all 4 and add ARP wheel studs while I had it all apart.

My good friend Justin at JSC Speed http://jscspeed.com/ hooking me up with some goodies. He helped me find the right pads (since I didn't really know what year my brakes ended up being. Ebay fronts I bought are from 2010, rears are 05) Whiteline lateral links to replace the bent ones. Stoptec drilled rotors and HP+ pads

    IMG_20141110_171614.jpg
I ended up getting one defective Koni shock. It looks like it had a small dent in the top that was touched up with yellow paint. The dent seemed to flair out the top just enough that the collar would not slide down over. A quick call to F5 and they shipped a replacement out very quickly!

The engine/trans are in. once I finish painting the brakes I can put wheels on and torque everything in the rear.

I saw someone else using the electrolysis and Arm and Hammer washing soda to remove rust from parts. I must say, I am extremely pleased with how well it actually works. Brake calipers cleaned up like new with minimal effort.

    IMG_20141116_200541.jpg
Brake calipers all cleaned up, I took a flap wheel to them and smoothed out the casting lines and sharp corners. G2 epoxy caliper paint, looking good.

Wire harness sprawled out on the basement floor for some dieting

I really started to miss the WRX (and the donuts I did in the snow last year) so I went out and found a nice clean 12 WRX with 24kmi

Whats left of the shell. Sold the entire front clip. the rear bumper and tail lights are about all that's left to be sold, recouped about $3K selling off parts to teenagers. And the 180,000mi 2011 Jetta TDI workhorse is upset it has to sit outside.

    IMG_20141203_174406.jpg
Donor car's wheels got some snow tires.

    IMG_20141126_143107.jpg
Had to take a day to clean up and re-organize. The number of boxes is dwindling.

The 25/64ths can be tough to find. I struck out a few times and used a 3/8 to keep things moving on those first few rivnuts before going and ordering a 25/64 on amazon.

Keep the photos coming. Looks good and I like the new daily driver. Probably would have gone with that white if I bought my car again (dgm 2011 wrx)

Thanks everyone, I was shocked when it started, I figured it would crank for some time before starting. And after a ton of "I don't think I need these wires" Clip, clip. The only CEL's are for the removed air pump components and fuel tank vents.

    First drive!

Things are starting to come together now that its warming up a bit. The first drive wasn't far, I didn't have the wheels anywhere near aligned, I was just eager to get it off of the jacks and make it move under its own power.

    More panels installed

Great work. I see your using the standard fuel tank and donor seats. How do you like the fit? It's been said by others that for people over 5'10" that a aftermarket seat or the "Boyd tank" or both should be used. I'd like to use the donor seats if at all possible.

Pete, I'm using stock WRX seats too... That is one VERY low 818! That appears to be less than 2 inches of ground clearance. Congrats on the rapid build, you are really moving along

I'm 6'2" and my head is 2-3" above the roll bar, I put the stock seat in because I was trying to get ready for an auto-x. I ordered the FFR Kirkey seats, they will sit on the floor and give me just enough head room with a helmet to pass the broom stick...

I was hoping they would work for me but they won't (6'2"). I used the supplied brackets and didn't modify the seat at all, just bolted them on. I don't think you could get them much lower with modification, maybe an inch or two max.

I got it running and just set it on the ground, I didn't adjust the suspension before the little stroll in the driveway. I was exceeded to have it move under its own power

    Warm Weather Update. Body time.

Making more progress now that it is warm and the shake down auto-x went well. I had to fix a few minor issues.

Properly vented my fuel tank through a small charcoal canister after blowing the o-rings out of the sending unit because it got pressurized...

Removed and cut down the front CV stubs, they make contact with the shock near full lock. (now that I have wheels/tires that allow full lock)

I re-engineered the stock CAT so that I did not have to cut a hole in the body. I cut it all apart and changed the angles. I hope that having the emissions components will help me get it registered, then I'll make a proper exhaust.

I'm going to still need at least 5mm spacer for the rear. even though I got near the recommended wheel/tire size/offset it is still hitting the rear link. I have a set of 10mm spacers that seem to put the tire "hella flush" with the rear fenders. The fronts are perfect.

Boy the red body looks great. Much better than the white, IMO.
