Pics of Kleiner License Plate Mod?

I'm sure there are pics of the infamous Kleiner MKIV license plate mod, but every single thread with detailed pics that I've found has been bitten by the Photobucket fiasco. I've looked at 30+ different threads, but most point back to Jeff's original post and he got screwed by Photobucket like lots of others.
I don't believe it's a difficult mod but was hoping for good pics to get ideas. Does anyone have detailed images of the "process"?

    Thanks,

    -TJ

I did mine exactly like that and it still hit the handle. Wonder what I might have done wrong?

Mine was tight as well. Depends on several variables. How high you mount the light and where the handle is drilled are just a couple. I'm happy with the end result. It's a shame FFR did not pick up on the issue during design.

Mine looks just like this, I added a black grommet at the bottom to hide the cut edge of the plate.

Also, I added the LED lights form superbrightLEDS and am happy w it.

Took a slightly lazy approach. I cut a slot in the plastic lense then trimmed the plate with a nibbler so it would slide in far enough to clear the trunk handle without notching the bottom.

I did not flip the lights electronics just insulated the top of the plate where it might come in contact with the unit. Split tubing or electrical tape will work for this. I used silicone to bond the plate to the bracket cross bar & did not use any screws .

Here is my post on the subject ...

The location for the Mk 4 license plate light/holder does not provide enough room for a standard plate ... resulting in the plate covering the handle.

Jeff Kleiner came up with a great modification to change the internals and the clear plastic cover to give enough room (about 3/8") of clearance to the handle. I also modified the light to use 2 LED lights instead of the 1157 incandescent bulbs. Basically I gutted the bulb holders and their support sheet metal; fabricated a new bracket and the drilled new holes for the LEDs. Here are all the parts before reassembly.

The LEDs were angled to maximize the 120 deg light fan on the plate.

Here are the results and the parts list.

Again, thanks to Jeff and the others that paved the way for this modification.
