front lower control arm spacing question (MK4)

Trying to install the lower control arm, and here is what I have:

driver side / forward: no room for spacer - pretty tight fit

driver side / rearward: 1 spacer on and room for maybe 1/2 of a spacer on the other side

passenger side / forward: 1 spacer on - tight fit

pass side / rearward: room for 2 total spacers, one on each side

Do I fill in the spaces with spacers to get the fit at least close to tight, then torque to tighten?

I kind of had the same problem I left out the spacers in the front forward mounts and put one spacer in the rear mounts. When you torque them down you will bring it in to fill up the half spacer room. When I shoved a spacer in the front mount its seem to bind up the a-arm, so left it out on both sides.

If I remember correctly if there was enough space for a shim I installed one.
When I tightened the bolts the tab bent to close the space.

On mine, I bent the end back a little on one side so the spacers matched (one each side).
