Martinez, Calif -- Cobra Day Event article

Check out the Rein Car Nation article on this event.

Is that 41 Type 65 Coupe familiar to us over here?

Can't answer your question directly since I wasn't at that event in June at the Cobra Experience, but I was there just yesterday, Sept-17-2017. The Guardsman Blue Coupe in the Recarnation article wasn't there yesterday, but in it's "Daytona Coupe" place in the museum was an immaculate, gorgeous, recently finished continuation Shelby Daytona Coupe # CSX 2606 built by Mike McClusky Ltd. as a period correct exact replica of the #5 Dan Gurney / Bob Bondurant Daytona Coupe in Viking blue as entered in the 1964 Le Mans 24 Hours race. First in Class and Fourth Overall. Every square inch is hospital operating or almost semi-conductor clean room CLEAN. Amazing. I have photos, but may not be able to post them here yet due to my fairly new membership, etc.

Of course, that's our friend Chris Bergquist. He's in the lawn char hiding behind a magazine.

I believe that car was the one in the Road&Track issue with the multi-page spread celebrating the Daytona Coupe. If you don't have that issue, I would strongly suggest chasing one down. I never get tired of looking at the pictures and reading the history. Sam Smith wrote the article and drove the car. It is truly epic...

Interesting. I was not aware there were any "continuation" Coupe's built. Was it originally sold by Shelby America to Mike McClusky Ltd. to be finished?

According to the article, it was a "nut and bolt reproduction" of the Daytona Coupe by Mike McClusky. Since he's restored several of the existing real ones, he probably knows more about the Coupes than anybody on the planet...

Yes, I thought that was Chris B's build! Glad to see he's still around, his Flickr photo collection continues to help my build!
