Anyone up to the challenge of a 2015+ WRX or BRZ/FRS Donor?

We are in the early stages of implementing CANBUS equipped engines into different projects and would love to see one in an 818. If someone takes this on as their power plant we would provide significant help in the wiring department. Ideally it would be a direct injected platform like the 2015 WRX or a BRZ/FRS. The BRZ/FRS NA platform might just be perfect for the 818 since it's a good blend of simplicity (no turbo cooling issues) and power at around 200 HP.

Here is some video of the first (as far as we know) FA WRX running an OEM ECU outside it's original chassis.

This will be a game-changer when you pull it off. It gives me even more warm-fuzzys about my harness knowing you guys have the capabilities and confidence to even try things like this rather than simply cranking out old-school harness builds that anyone with a crimper could do.

Obviously for the long-term survivabilty of iWire it sort of had to happen.

Thanks Phil and agreed it did need to happen to keep this going forward.

It works, this car should drive this week. I just love the idea of the BRZ/FRS platform in the 818 and want to help push someone that direction! Plus you can get those wrecked pretty cheap I think.

Hmmm, a quick look at ebay found a motor for $2500-2800.

The FRS/BRZ engine would be a lot of work because the tranny bolt pattern is not the same as the EJ series tranny we need to use. If you can get around that it would be a great ST3 combo. However they regularly fail under high G lateral loads. There is no dry sump option I'm aware of. Phil at Element Tuning says he has solved that issue, but you have to buy his rebuilt shortblock + Element Tuning Oil Accumulator Kit. http://elementtuning.com/competition...r-wrx-fa20dit/
And even Phil says the best answer for a BRZ is his LS engine swap kit!

The 2015 WRX works because it does use the same bolt pattern, but now you have new issues with the turbo fitment.

Failing under high G loads is just a Subaru being a Subaru. ;D

But yes I agree with you in that the issues you described are concerns. Honestly if someone wanted to do any 08+ engine including 6cyl we would help the cause.

Oh man, wish I knew that before I did everything myself! I just finished the wiring harness for a 2013 EZ36R H6 in my 818R.

I'm looking to do an FA20D (from the 86/BRZ/FR-S) in my 818C. Has anyone made the adapter plate for the FA20D to bolt on to the 5MT Revised that the 01-07 non-WRX Imprezas send power down?

I want to do a ez36. I have a couple local donors available for a lot less than$2500. What will I need from the donor and what can I expect from you (besides writing you a big check)?

long dead thread, but im curious if any progress was made on this front. I just picked up a 2017 STI donor with only 5k miles on it, and I’d love to be able to use the full wiring harness to drive the factory ecu, instrument cluster, and SI Drive controller for different drive modes. I didn’t see anything on the iWire website about canbus, so i thought I’d try to revive this thread...
