I recently wrote this procedure for a new fuel line kit. Here it is for your benefit!

Tips for cutting braided stainless hose:
Method 1: Sharpened cold chisel and a 3lb sledgehammer against the anvil on your vise
Method 2: Fine-toothed hacksaw
Method 3: Die grinder with a 3” cutoff wheel (what Breeze used for years)
Method 4: Heavy duty hardened jaw cable cutters such as made by H.K. Porter
(what Breeze uses now – much less set-up and clean-up time than method #1.)

The average homeowner is most likely to have tools for methods 1 and 2.
Wrap with a few turns of masking tape for methods 2 and 3.
Using methods 1 or 4 will pinch the hose end into a football shape. Shape the hose end back to round by inserting a tapered punch and by tapping the braid down gently with the small ball-peen hammer. Clean out any debris from the cutting operation

Tips for fitting installation: (first end)
When the braided hose is cut, one end will tend to bloom or spread out and the other will tend to stay closed around the Teflon. The bloomed end makes it a little easier to install the ferrule over the Teflon liner, so start with that end of the hose. Remove the tube nut from the fitting. Apply a small amount of grease to the internal threads before sliding it over the end of the braid, non-threaded “funnel” end first. Be careful to capture all the strands of stainless braid inside the funnel end before working the nut completely over the braid. (another option is to slide the tube nut on from the far end of the hose) Make sure the end of the Teflon liner is clean and has a straight cut. Sometimes the Teflon end can be cleaned up to remove any shards of material with a sharp X-Acto knife. Blow out the tube from the other end with compressed air if available. Remove the ferrule from the fitting body and examine it. The inside has internal barbs to grab the OD of the Teflon. There is also an internal step that will stop the Teflon and control the insertion depth. Press the ferrule over the end of the Teflon liner until the liner stops on the internal step. Insert the smooth male fitting end into the Teflon liner until fully seated. Lubricate the male fitting threads and the ferrule with a small amount of grease. Slide the tube nut into contact with the fitting, start the threads by hand, and hand tighten. Using two ¾” open end wrenches or one open end and an adjustable, tighten the tube nut to the fitting body.

Tips for fitting installation: (other end)
Remove the tube nut and ferrule and store them in a safe place. With the hose positioned where the connection is to be located, mark it with a sharpie at the length required to reach where the fitting threads meet the smooth tube. Find the tube nut, lightly grease the internal threads and slide it funnel end first over the braid. Since the other end is the “bloom end” the braid on this end will tend to stay tight around the Teflon. Now use a small flat blade screwdriver to work the braid open around the Teflon just enough to allow installation of the ferrule and install the ferrule until the Teflon seats on the internal step. Lubricate the male fitting threads and the ferrule with a small amount of grease. Slide the tube nut into contact with the fitting and hand tighten. Using two ¾” open end wrenches or one open end and an adjustable, tighten the tube nut to the fitting body.
