I'm Stumped - Need Help With FAST EFI to Ron Francis Harness Connections

Well, the title pretty much says it. I've read through the very limited information provided with my FAST EFI system installed by BluePrint Engines and the somewhat better, but still confusing wiring instructions that came with the Ron Francis harness. Before I start cutting and splicing and praying, I'm asking for help. I currently have the RF Sending unit harness and EFI harness with no connections other than my water temp sensor and oil pressure sensor from my gauge kit that I connected to the sending unit harness.

My FAST EFI is installed and the harness has the following wires to connect:

    Red - Battery Positive
    Black - Battery Negative
    Computer plug

    Pink - 12v Switched
    Blue - Fan Relay
Gray - (can't read the print)

    Fuel Pump Control
    - Three pin weather pack connector with:
    Red, Green, and pink wires
    - Green (fuel pump relay)

    FAST Fuel Pump Relay Harness:
    - Four pin weather pack plug with
    - Red, Green, Black wires and a blank spot
    - FAST also provided an additional 4-pin weather pack connector (I assume it should replace the three pin?)

    O2 Sensor plug (sensor supplied)

    My Ron Francis harnesses:

    EFI Harness
    - Orange (coil or EFI)
    - Blue (EFI Crank)
    - Purple (Coil / Tach)
    - Green (Speed sensor)
    - Gray (Speed sensor)

    Sending Unit Harness:
    - Tan (Electric choke)
    - Green (Fan Thermo Sensor)

With the exception of the battery and 12v switched wires, I'm not sure what goes where. With power connected, my fuel pump runs in the key on and crank positions with just the RF harness setup as it came (nothing cut and no FAST EFI connections made to anything).

I could really use some guidance from those that have made this setup work. I've reached out to both BluePrint and FAST and received no help.

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

Itchief beat me to it; bb767 just went through this.

    In the meantime:
    1. You won't need the RF Blue (EFI Crank) wire. This wire provides +12V ONLY at crank. Terminate it so that the wire can't short to ground.
    2. The RF Tan (Electric choke) wire provides +12V at ACC and RUN. You can re-purpose this circuit for a cigarette lighter, or vent fans, or seat heater(s).

If you get stuck or need clarification, sing out.

Guys, thanks for the recomendations! I’ve passed along to Dave what I have learned, sounds like we have the exact same setup. It feels good to give back a little after all the help I have been given.

BB767 - Thanks for calling and pointing me in the right direction. I'll be trying to get things hooked up this coming weekend. I forgot to ask what the gray wire is in the bundle from the EFI harness (the one I couldn't read the printing on). The blue and pink wires are marked clearly, but the gray one is gibberish.

    Thanks,
    Dave

You didn't get a manual from Fast? Look one up on line.

    Rich,

Sometimes things that seem obvious are anything but. The FAST EFI system installed by BluePrint is a mix of parts that are not sold as a package by FAST. I received my engine with the EFI throttle body installed and all the injector and fuel/air sensors connected. I also received a box full of pieces and parts that were mostly obvious, but some that I still can't decide what to do with. I also received a two page set of installation notes that beat home the fact that the main power and ground should be connected directly to the battery and not much else that made any sense to me. After scouring the Internet for FAST EFI instructions, including FAST's tech support pages, I found a ton of different pdf files, but none that were specific to my system. Most describe installing and configuring the system with a handheld device. BluePrint has pre-programmed the computer and doesn't provide the handheld. After giving up on the web, I thought I'd take a look at the thumb drive that was in the box and I did find a wire diagram that helped me identify the gray wire I was asking about as the A/C Input. I can cross one more connection off my list. When I finally get this thing working, I plan to fully describe it in my build thread to help others that are not automotive electrical experts get through what has been for me, the most difficult and frustrating part of the build.

    Papa,

I hope by now that the wiring is straightened out ... I do have one concern; unless your EFI has had continuous 12V DC power then the programming is lost (at least that is the case on my FAST EZI EFI 2.0 system when not connected to power for a while).

Another lesson learned ... route the wiring for the EFI system on the opposite side of the car from the ignition system to avoid interference from the ignition system into the EFI ECU.

The handheld device is what is used to program and monitor the engine before startup and as it learns so I am surprised that you did not get one with the kit from BluePrint.

You state that BluePrint had " pre-programmed the computer and doesn't provide the handheld." Do you have the XFI system and not the EZ-EFI system that we are assuming? Regardless, BluePrint should have supplied the instruction manual which should contain a wiring diagram. I have the FAST EZ-EFI 2.0 system and the manual has a full wiring diagram.

Back when I had placed my order with BluePrint, I'd asked for information on the EFI and here is what I got from them at that time:

    David,

As we discussed we’re getting things loaded for your build-looking forward to it!

So here is some more information for you to review; as we discussed, we have a FAST EFI system configured specifically for BluePrint Engines; so it does make it difficult to “google search” to see exactly what it is.

The base fuel system is similar to the 30226-06KIT however we have an upgraded custom calibrated ECM; and do not have the handheld.

Fuel Pump kit SKU: 30401-PK which is just like SKU: 30402-FK (except no hoses/fittings)
    http://www.fuelairspark.com/fas/mast...-fittingshtml/

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is why myself and others are asking questions here in the hope that those (many I'm sure) that have the same system can offer some tips on making the proper connections.

Carl and Olli. Our system is a modified XFI Street setup. The information does say that programing is saved internally after powering down. It is tuned via laptop computer with FAST software installed. The software is supplied but with only an index to try and figure out how to tune it, not enough information for non-experts. On the other hand, once I figured out the wiring, the tune programed by BluePrint started and ran great. The system also has self learning capability which I will use as soon as I have time to figure out how to turn it on!

Papa, sorry you didn't get your documentation with your system. I hate when vendors do that. They should provide the end user with all the documentation that comes with the systems they are selling you.
