    ls3 and G50

As I am planning at this point, I want to use the LS3 and mate it to the G50; however, I was wondering which G50 others have used and had success with, keeping extra manipulation for fit and cost, etc to a minimum. Long...short? 5 vs 6 speed? My ultimate plan for the car is just an around-town ride. there are no good tracks close by, and I don't plan on going crazy with it. I just want good acceleration and don't plan on doing much with the LS3, unless I change the cam. Success stories?

I've got a G50 adapter plate and flywheel for sale. It's what came with my kit. I'd do $550 plus shipping if your interested.

The G96/50 is the strongest version that was offered by Porsche, in it's turbo & gt models. It's also the most expensive. You'll have to spend 8k or more. Most are using the more standard 911 G50s. You don't need a six-speed over a five-speed because the car is so light. You will want to change your top gear ratio for something more suited to a V8, and buy the Brandwood cable shifter for sure.

The G96/50 does require modifying your rear subframe in order to mount it, but it is the best choice for a really slick-shifting transaxle. Any of the G50's will work fine....there's not any major fitment issues with any of them. As carbon fiber mentioned above, if you do plan on any interstate cruising, you will want to swap out the top gear for something taller so you don't end up running 3,000rpm+ at interstate speeds. FFR now offers a really nice cable shifter assy that is (IMO) nicer and cheaper than the Brandwood but I don't know if it comes with the cables and brackets necessary to mount it. The Brandwood unit comes with everything you need....so there is a trade-off there.

Some will try to convince you to swap out 1st gear for something taller. I'm not one of those people. Yes, the lower gears in the Porsche boxes are pretty low.....but for everyday driving on real streets in real traffic, I would much prefer the lower first gear vs a really tall first gear. I've driven both and the tall 1st gear just ruins the whole driving experience for me for pretty much everything until you get the car out on the open highway.
