    ********** 427 T5 Shifter

Does anyone know if the ********** T5 shifter will bolt directly to the Tremec TKO-600?

You will need to enlarge the two mounting holes. Other than that I love the shifter.

Yes but you will need a smaller diameter bolt than comes with the FFR kit or enlarge the holes in the shifter. Went with thinner grade 8 bolts.

Awesome! Thanks for the help. I found a source for a weighted, polished stainless steel knob with the threads of my choice. I'll order the 1/2" x 20 and the shifter.

It will work fine! I wouldn't take time to enlarge the holes as you can just get smaller bolts and have them pass through rather than thread into the tko.

I received the shifter for Christmas. It's a nice piece. I don't have the transmission yet to attach it to, though.

I didn't want to drill the shifter out, and I didn't want to through bolt it with a loose fit either. I'm out of town at the moment, so this is from my memory.

The stub coming out of the turret (the rear one) has two threaded holes, I think 3/8. I got some threaded inserts from McMaster to put in there, that make the holes 1/4 (x28 I think, probably these https://www.mcmaster.com/#90259a136/=1b73y65 ). The holes in the shifter I believe are 5/16, so I pressed in bronze bushings, so the whole assembly is set up for 1/4-28 (maybe 1/4-20, I wish I could remember) bolts. I used Grade 8. They aren't going to break. Nice snug perfect fit.

    Not intended to offend.

I'm assuming we all built these cars so clearly we have tools.

A drill and a drill bit equals a solid installation in less than a couple of minutes. I don't understand taking any other approach to this.

    What am I missing here?

Nothing. I've done it that way twice. Simplest and easiest solution.

Mine should be here tomorrow. Looks like it'll get to spend a little time on the drill press. I also got my shifter ball today. It is beautiful! ~400 grams of solid stainless steel, polished to a mirror (chrome) finish, with 1/2-20 threads ready to go into the shifter.

No worries. I just didn't want to ruin a spendy part, or induce a weak spot, or whatever. Putting the inserts and bushings in probably took as long as drilling. Some say tomato, some say tomahto.

Cool looking shift knob. One word of caution though. In California after a few hours in the sun it will be as hot as your side pipes. Perhaps the sun is kinder in Colorado.

Thanks for the warning. Yes, the sun in Colorado is intense. Our temps are pretty mild, but I still use a sun shade in my other cars all year round. With the topless roadster, I'll go hi-tech and throw a towel over the seats and controls and will keep a set of driving gloves in the glove box.

Found that the high tech beach towel work great. Put a few "zip-ties" in one edge & loop them over the control knobs on the dash. Covers the seat & console

I had the same shifter and a similar shift ball in my 20th Anniversary Roadster from Original Parts Group via Summit Racing. The shift knob does get a little hot in the sun I guess. But no worse than the black upholstery. Shift knob doesn't matter too much if you can't even sit in the seats. We also do the towel trick. I keep a couple in the trunk when the car's going to be out in the sun and throw them over the seats and center console. Especially 20-30-40 minutes before we plan to climb in and go somewhere.

What is the difference between this sifter and the Factory Five one?

Sorry for my ignorance, just curious.

This is the one that comes with the kit.

    http://cdn8.bigcommerce.com/s-6661c/...882655.jpg?c=2

I worked on fitting the shifter today. I enlarged the holes to 3/8" using my drill press. This the larger hole barely removed any material from the shifter, maybe 1/32 of an inch larger than the original hole. I then bought two 3/8"-24 x 1-1/2" grade 8 bolts to attach the shifter to the stub on the TKO-600. I then threaded on a couple of nuts to keep thing from moving. Perfect fit and rock solid.

    Steve,

Thanks! The shift knob was purchased from sweetknobs.com. I ordered through eBay, but they also work through their main website. They have quite a selection of knobs in different materials and finishes. If you end up deciding to order from them, PM me first. If you give them my e-mail address, you'll save $5.00 and I'll get a $5.00 referral as well.
