Someone already got my idea of Hornet, so I will present a bunch of tongue in cheek suggestions:

    Factory Five Series 1

Factory Five Ghidorah <-- it will surely be better than a GT-R

    Factory Five Subra

    Factory Five X or FFX

I was thinking the FFR Apex, but I see I was beaten to the punch.

    How about

    Factory Five's Velocity

    or Velocity 5

could even design a stylized emblem for it based on the formula V = Delta X / Delta t (must be a way to do the delta triangle on here, but anyhow...)

I really like the FFRX name:

    Factory Five Rx
    FF Rx

    1) The name sounds cool
    2) The name will remind people of the cars WRX based heritage, especially since Subaru guys call the WRX a 'rex' and Rx can be pronounced that way
    3) The name Rx is also used in pharmacy like when filling a medical prescription....your kit car "prescription" is a Factory Five Rx!

1G is cool and simple. But I have to agree FFRX is nifty as well.

I like Forge or Apex also.

    Other suggestions:
    Malestrom, Tempest, Inferno,

    Raptor (agile and fast),

    Catapult, Ballistic, (0-60 in a 350+ horsepower, 1800lb weapon),

Defy, Gauntlet (re:challenge) seeing as on paper it has the potential to exceed the driver's capabilities on a track.

or my less subtle favorite - Sledgehammer (probably more apt for a big block brute)

Scoobysarus Rex - with a logo that is Scooby Doo drawn to resemble a T-Rex

Seriously though, there have been several pretty decent names thrown out, at some point we should collect them all into a single list. I think seeing them all in one place might spur people to think up something even better. How to do that and still be able to update it easily when new submissions are added?

I like Apex... I thought I came up with it on my own but was also beaten to the punch... Oh well, that is what you get for working instead of reading these cool threads!!

Chicane would be another racing term that might be OK but, admittedly, Apex is better.

GTSport (in keeping with the GTM heritage)
    GT-S
    Boxer Sport
    Nimble
    Agile
Riptide (a surfing term has to earn me a couple of points!!)

Forge and Apex are both really good submissions.

I see a lot of reference to Japanese names, but FFR is an American company and will be the company making this "mission" possible. Given that, even though this car is destined for an international market, I think a name that's more generic and sellable at home is in order.

"GTM" was an understated name, with a hint of international reference. Maybe more the same. And as the GTM is the FFR model which it will have the most "in common" with, perhaps a name cut from a similar mold?

Like perhaps the "Factory Five GT", "Factory Five GTS", or a derrivative like GT-1 or GT-One, ?

Maybe a problem as there is a kit car in the UK (a rather lovely one at that) by a company/named the Vortex.

I was agreeing with your post until I remembered what GT stood for (Grand Tourer) which might not fit this car's design brief.

Maybe SL or SLX (sports light/ extreme), RS (race special) or just call it the Extreme.
Another idea would be Factory Five Sports, but that shortens to FFS!

Maybe we should have a voting system or a poll? (can the Mod set one up? maybe)

    so far:
    Apex
    Raptor
    Forge
    FF? (some letter/number designation)
    Agile

    Interesting ideas, Labmonkee.

I was going to suggest RS-X, but there might be problems with Acura.

How about RS-One, RS-1, or RS-T (T is for Targa?)

Since I'm in IT and spend almost all my time in Linux land (rather than cough Windows), I think you should just rearrange the letters - WRX should be rwx (in lower case). (for those that aren't unix/linux savvy, rwx stands for the file permissions Read Write Execute).

So the name would be FFR rwx.

Name it after your occupational heritage

Here's my suggestion. You wrote a great opening letter for this forum speaking highly of your family - and naming your Great Grandfather, John Smith, the Blacksmith. It would be awesome to remember your family's occupational heritage in the name. As your Dad said you and Mark were carrying on the tradition in your own way. Its not as sexy as some of the names, but how about:

    FFR Herrero (blacksmith)
    FFR Herrero Forjado (blacksmith forged)
    FFR Forjado (forged)

After looking at the current suggestions, not becoming a fan of the Alpha-numeric ones.

Of the ones that have been 'seconded', I like Apex. There are a few that have only been mentioned once I like too.

For all you Apex fans....saw this symbol and thought it was perfect, so I put together this emblem. The 'F' is a reverse mirror image and can mean FF for Factory Five. Of course, the shape goes without saying with regards to an apex. The more I see it, the more I like it.

If all you are looking for is a simple working name, go with what is known about the project.

    FFREJX

Factory Five Racing EJ (engine code for all Subaru 4 cylinders from the 90's to near present) X works for many things (X could be 20 or 25 for the 2 and 2.5 litres, eXperimental, WRX etc..)

Anyway, I don't care what it's called or to an extent what it looks like. If the project comes in at the expected price point (or close) I'm in.

Yama. It means "mountain" in Japanese and looks like this in Kanji: 山. It is also not too serious sounding or over-thought. Takers?

Let me officially withdraw Agile... it works well enough alone, but when you combine it with FFR, well, not so much.... FFR Agile = FRAGILE

I really shouldn't think about this stuff before having coffie, right now as a working name I propose calling the car "Ricky Carmichael" as in the GOAT as this could be the greatest factory five sports car offering yet.

As a long term name though, there was a thread on rice vs. tuner, someone called it a Super Tuner. If we like letters and such, ST5 is kind of cool.

Though I have to say I still like Apex a lot.
