The big question is will the T56 fit?
Dimensionally the LT1 (Gen-2 SBC) is pretty much the same size as a Gen-1 SBC.
If you want to go carbureted, you can install a rear drive distributor to ditch the Optispark.
You just need the intake manifold and block off plate kit shown below:

Welcome Aboard Fellow Dark Sider!
thanks for the reply i will try to stay with the optispark/fuel injection as i have 2 complete engines. i am trying to use what i have. i didn't expect the T56 to be an issue it seems that is a common choice i dont have a good tranny so if there is a better choice i am open to suggestions
If the trans doesn't fit, then I'm sure some simple mods could be easily done.
Also, the extended length of the T56 may be a good thing when it comes to drive shaft clearance toward the rear of the 33's frame.
You Got This!

When choosing a trans, you may want to consider the width. The footbox is real tight on the hot rod and depending on the size of the trans, you may have an opportunity to increase the driver side foot room by narrowing the doghouse. That way you don't have to drive with ballet shoes.
