    Red face New 818 builder

I have built all the FFR models except an 818 but have just recently negotiated to purchase an incomplete 818. I have worked/built numerous cars over the past 50+ years but know nothing about Subies. I have worked extensively on Porsches and VW's -- looks similar! My questions to you guys are starting right off the bat, first has anyone installed a removable steering wheel on the donor steering column? Next question surrounds suppliers of after market parts and accessories - looking for good referrals for most anything applicable to this car. I'll be driving my 33HR while the build of the 818 moves forward!

    Welcome to the club!

So, you will find many posts on removable steering wheels, as well as compressing the steering column to give you a bit more room.

I went with the NRG quick disconnect, and their short hub adapter. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 A little pricey, but... Worked perfectly and allow for the factory directional cancel and horn function.

Tried to make the FFR hub adapter work, but after lots of modifications including cutting in in half like Fletch did, I still wasn't happy with it.

Sorry they're sideways. took them portrait and didn't have time to format them properly for this post.

Also, I've used a lot of Zero Decibel Motorsports stuff. Craig engineers some really nice 818 specific parts. http://zerodecibelmotorsports.com/

I also used Boig cool pipes and quiet tubes, but Bob recently passed away so not sure of the status of the business. From the website, looks like they are continuing. https://boigmotorsports.com/ But if you've built other models, you're probably familiar with his products.

    Good luck!

I'm close by in Hingham and am happy to have you visit to check out my 818, or to come to Falmouth to give you a hand. I second Rob's endorsement of Craig at ZDB's parts. I have many and am very pleased with them. Also have Boig's cool tubes and exhaust and again am very happy with them. His parts are fabricated just down the road from me, so if you are unable to obtain them there is another possibility.

Welcome to the 818 group! That's impressive that you've almost completed the whole FFR suite of cars. I just did a detailed write up on my quick release steering wheel https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/show...l=1#post483953. Post #378 if this doesn't direct you to the right spot in my build thread.

I used FastWRX for a lot of Subaru parts

    Welcome to the 818 club.
Is this going to be an R a C or S model?
    Good luck with the build
May have to pick your brain for some VW stuff and listen to what you have to say about getting more “pep” on my ‘75 VW Thing

I have a 3D printable bracket to drop the steering column 1 inch and also allow it to be collapsed up to 3"

    https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4197710

Print the bracket at a high infill for strength.

And if you want to keep cruise control, here is a bracket to incorporate the cruise control lever into the aftermarket wheel

Thanks guys. Planning on picking up the car this weekend and then taking apart most of it to see what needs completing and or changes. Car was brought up to go cart stage but never really driven around. Some body panels have been temp fitted. Has a lot of extras that have been fitted (Corbeau seats, custom exhaust, upgraded turbo, etc.) and does start and drive. Also has IWIRE harness installed.

    Welcome.

Second the NRG disconnect and hub. I have it installed as well. Just added a post to my build about cutting up your 33 Hot Rd fuel tank as well! Enjoy the build.

Good luck and welcome aboard. As you've probably noticed with other builds, there re some tricks to this one and some particular problem areas - windows/doors for the 818C, for example. Don't hesitate to ask questions if you can't find the info on the forums already.
