Placement of under fuel tank aluminum

I have a question about where the aluminum should be placed. If I line it up with the front crossbar, then the sides hang over on the slanted side bars. If I line up the sides with the side bars, then it hangs over the front crossbar. The cut outs for the toolbar tubes seem to line up better in the forward position. The rear cockpit panel doesn't go up past the crossbar to help in making a choice, so any thoughts? Does it matter?

Mine is a Gen 1, not sure if that matters.
My front and sides align with frame bars. I don’t thing it matters if the sides overhang a little. You could always trim them.
Maybe someone with a Gen 2 will chime in.

The tank also sticks out past the side tubes, so who knows. I'm sure there are more opinions out there.

I see that your tube cut outs are about where the welds stop. That's where I put it as a test fit and it hangs over in the front by about 3/8 of an inch but lines up perfectly on the sides. Could you measure yours front to back and get back to me. Maybe mine is cut longer. I layed the upper trunk floor in and it overlaps onto the under tank piece either way.

Did anyone put anything under the tank? I'm thinking about putting some EPDM or Neoprene strips to remove any possible sources of noise/vibration.

    Opinions?

mine hangs over the front bar by about the same as what you're saying. I didn't install it so I don't know what's right or not.

I used roofing ice shield that I had leftover, sticky on one side. It's a very tight fit. I had to bang the tank in place with my palm. It was the thought of the tank vibrating on the rivets that prompted me to put something there.

I believe it should be even with the front bar. It will only stick out barely enough at the back of the tank to rivet or screw the upper floor to it and not enough to capture both the upper floor and the trunk front panel flange. The tank sides cover anything that sticks out over the frame tubes. Just fill in the gaps around the rollbar tubes with silicone. You might even want to set it back even with the top of the curve of the corner of the tubing.

I had the same tight fit and concern about the rivets wearing the bottom of the tank. I used a bicycle tire inner tube that I cut into strips for various places where a thin strip of rubber would fit, prevent metal to metal rubbing, and stop any vibration.

I picked up some 1/16" thick sticky back material and covered the bottom of the tank.
