    Trick Flow

    Hello,

Some racers have already ordered their new Trick Flow top end kits. We shipped all in stock parts and the cylinder heads will ship out when completed. By doing this, the engine builders can assemble their short blocks and be ready to install the cylinder heads when they arrive. I just wanted to point out that if this is what you’re doing, it’s a great idea; just remember not to install your factory heads with your new Trick Flow kit, then switch the Trick Flow cylinder heads for the factory Ford heads when they arrive. If you try to use the factory heads with the new camshaft, the factory valve springs will be incorrect. The lift and duration of the Trick Flow camshaft is too aggressive for factory springs. This can potentially cause valve float, binding of the springs, or even valve to piston clearance problems.

All is going well here. We have all the components for the new cylinder heads and casting will be here shortly. Once the castings are in we can machine and assemble. I can’t wait to see some video of all the racers on the track with the new combination, or maybe I can catch a race in person sometime this year. If you have any questions, please let me know.

    Thanks

    Eddi

    Eddi,

NASA Great Lakes will be at Mid-Ohio April 13-15, June 29- July 1 and August 10-12. It's just a few miles down the road from you. I think the biggest FFR turnout will be the one at the end of June when the East Coast boys will be there.

    Hope to see you there.

We are machining the heads now and assembly is next so not much longer. You racers are really going to like these heads I can’t wait to get some feedback after you take the car out.

Thanks for the update Eddie....I'm curious as to the specifics on the heads....Since you are working on castings and such, it sounds like they are not "off the shelf" heads. Is this a new series TFS head, or a one-off being produced for this application? Thanks!

John, are you going to install the cam without the heads? Or is all the in prep for when the heads arrive.

Marty, the trickflow cam does not work with the iron heads (stock stuff).

Im prepping the new shortblock putting in the cam ready for the trickflow heads when they arrive.

That's what I thought, but then I saw the Cam on the work bench.

What's the plan if the heads aren't shipped by March 25th? Are you going to run a stock 5.0?

I thought about upgrading the upper and lower intakes, Throttle body, and headers and then do the head/cam swap when available. It wouldn't be a huge change at first but I bet it would be noticeable.

    Marty,

I would not expect much gain. At least I would be VERY surprised if there is.

Keeping the stock heads and cam, you are basically going to have the same airflow as the stock set up. Airflow is where the big gains come from.

I am happy and sad at the same time to hear that JG. I am glad that they are available and are shipping out. At the same time though I know there is no way I can get them here and installed in time for the March 24th race so it looks like I will be 120+ HP down for the first race. It will be fun to see how the extra power will translate to times though.

Nice, great, wonderful !!! Even if mine ship I could not use them as I have the wrong TB and upper intake, so need to get a response from TF. Remember don't put the heads on backwards!

    yeah,
It ain't happening. Not with my calender the way it is. Heck, I am not even home all of next week.

I'll run her the way she is and see how it goes. Who knows, I may still surprise you guys. The new brakes alone will make a huge difference.

NOPE......just waiting for heads still......new engine bottom end and TKO 500 just patiently
waiting to be installed. Sure glad I didn't pull the old one in antisipation of having all the parts
    for this weekend.
Oh Marty....the engine in my car suffers the same short coming as yours.....219whp
but WOW!... the car sure does go deeper into the corners before having to brake and I actually enjoy
going into the corners now.... and my lap times are down. I'd be interested to see how your lap times change.
