For Sale- 1970 Ford Top Loader 4 speed Transmission with *complete original Hurst Competition Plus Shifter.
I am only the 2nd owner since new. I have owned this since 1980 BUT it has never been run in my car. This has been stored in my warm, dry office, plastic wrapped and seals since 1980. I purchased this transmission from a friend who parted our his 1970 Ford Fairlane, from new purchase, in roughly 1974-75. The car was parted out and he never sold the transmission until I purchased it in 1980. Immediately after purchase, I had Top Loader Transmission specialist go thru the entire transmission for inspection, review and replace any parts needed if any. I was told that it needed no new parts and it looked good as new.
*The Hurst Competition Plus Shifter is complete BUT needs to be rebuilt. Included all shift rods and shift handle adapter.
Hurst Shifters will rebuild this shifter for $250.00. Go to: http://www.hurst-shifters.com
This is a perfect transmission for a Cobra Kit Car or any hot rod project. I am selling because this will not fit in my project.
Market price to replace these transmissions is $2,100 plus.
Pictures to follow.
Delivery can be discussed as I travel extensively in the New England area.

I am asking $1,500 or B/O E Mail at [email protected] and I can give you my cell #.

Ford introduced new style Toploading 3 and 4 speed transmissions in 1964. The Toploader 4 speed was coded HEH and later RUG. It The Toploader gets its name from having an access cover on the top of the main. Toploaders was only used in Ford cars from 1964 to 1973 as well as Jeeps up until early 1986. It is fully synchronized in all forward gears but not in reverse.
In passenger cars from 1964 to 1973 the Toploader was offered in 2 basic gear ratios. They have cast iron cases. Input shafts had 10 splines in both a 1 1/16 inch diameter and 1 3/8 inch diameter base. output shaft spline count was either 25, 28 and 31 spline. Later cars had an 8 bolt mounting pattern. Also the 427, 428, and 429 engines had the big diameter input with the larger 31 spline output shaft. The 1 3/8 inch input was only made for the 2.32 close ratio but today you can purchase modular style inputs that allow for ratios in wide or close configuration. The 1 1/16 inch input was used in all the small blocks and the 390 engine as well.
