    Cool 818 Super GT Style...

The following is based on Jim's and Vman's excellent work. Any shortcomings are my own.

The modifications are all small, and achievable with the 818r body which Dave released to our community.

I really like the idea of a race car with license plates, and I have always liked the Super GT.

    Z Composite Targa Jim-Vman-ADV Wing R4.jpg

Please bring your visual edits of how you might make the 818 into a race/street car on this thread using small or reasonable visual modifications to Jim's design. I wonder how much balanced front rear downforce can be generated on the 818 by some aerodynamic add ons like the ones I have posted?

They didn't call it Factory Five Racing for nothing! So on with the adventure...

    Cheers!

as i thought, a boxier snout and a more aggressive black lip really make it more aggressive.

Hmmm...... interesting. Up until now I've not liked this car one bit.

It seems that your roof design actually completely changes the look to the point I'd say, "I'd buy that."

If this is an opinion shared with many others then FFR need to take note.

It looks fantastic. But have you ever tried to get out of a race car with a window that small? Even if the door opens, I'm not sure I'd want to rely on that after a crash with the car on fire.

Roof looks perfect. Sounds like a job for Thomas142. I'll take my roof ala-hardtop Boxter style, ie removable. A fiberglass fab guy can mold a roof and reproduce, $2500 for that look and three latches from a roadster and I'm all over it. The body mods look pretty straightforward.

This thought has crossed my mind as well. There is at least one vendor who has been working on a gullwing hardtop for the FFR Roadster. This allows one to step in, standing on the floor, then sit down, and lower the gullwing top.

And his prices are very reasonable

I expect several suppliers will step up. It certainly would be nice if FFR gave them a head start on development.

Not 100% sure about his but I believe that, once you add a roof, the roll cage has to be altered to follow the roof line in order to be legal. They don't want the top of the windshield folding into the cockpit so there has to be something to prevent that. Usually this means front and rear hoops with bars connecting them above the side windows. They may allow these to be an X, leaving the area above the side window more open. Or they may allow these longitudinal bars to connect more inboard, as opposed to out at the corners. Hard to say without input from a tech inspector.

Would it look gawdawful to drop the top of the doors down 4 or 5 inches?

If it could only be a true gullwing .... instant HoF! get out the fire extinguishers!!! yeah, it might b a little heavier, a little more expensive to produce ... but what the heck. I would have to buy two.

LOVE the Super GT! Is the idea that it's a coupe, or the roadster with a removable hard top?

When I designed the roof, it was real late, and I was getting tired.......lol, also the windshield might not be the right size or shape, not sure on the one FFR is going to use. When I did the windshield I was going by the roll bar height after I cleaned up the interior.

Overall I think FFR-ADV's idea of a GT Coupe works pretty well, gives you a rough idea what the car could look like

    Thanks everyone.

    Vman,
Thank you for your kind words. You are right we don't know what FFR is planning for the windshield except for the front view that is in the frame section of the Factory Five website and even that is a work in progress. I do not think you are far off. We also do not know what FFR plans for their Coupe design, it could end up something like this, or maybe not. I prefer to describe this as a removable hardtop that has potential to become an FFR Coupe design down the road, but that is up to Dave, Jim and the rest of FFR's development team. I look forward to seeing what you and others on this forum will do by add-ons (tops, graphics...) and minor modifications to the revealed FFR 818 design.

    http://www.factoryfive.com/kits/project-818/design/

I do like the idea of a removable hard top, whether from FFR or a third party such as is available with the Roadster. That a hard top like this could be provided by a third party means that I can build the initial release 818 Spyder and should be able to add a hardtop down the road. Full track usage will require a complete cage and I do not know what NASA would require to qualify such a cage. I did notice that some of the FFR track roadsters do have more complete cages. That is probably a big enough topic to warrant its own thread.

I have cleaned up a few jagged lines on the wing struts.

    Cheers!

    You did a good job!

That's what I had in mind as well, if you look close you will see the seam from the top and the windshield.

A 3rd party top may be one of the first hard tops, until FFR comes up with a coupe.

I am working on changing the windshield height and Coupe top height right now, plus taking out the humps and adding a back window. I have the new Soft Top height done, as well as the Coupe, just need to clean up the humps. So if you want you can add your add ons once I upload them. I will upload them to my thread.

    Welcome TheUnscented!

This is not the official design, but my and others thoughts of what we could do with the FFR design through small modifcations or add-ons. Dave Smith had Mad Dog released a picture of an 818r racing body concept on another thread that should represent FFRs intent:

    http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showt...r-Advice/page7

This design also is slight modifications to the work done by Vman who has added an album to show his work:

    http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/album.php?albumid=337

    Thanks, and great idea Vman!

    Cheers!

    Looks good. Nice splitter.

I think at the very least, they should pick up Vmans modification to the rear fender intake. Thie other modifications i think could go either way in subjection, but this one flows so much better and seems like such a no-brainer. Compared to Vman's version, the original just looks like an after thought.

As a next step I colorized Vman's Coupe adaptation of Jim's Design as solid Subaru Rally Blue. Then when I get a little time I will start playing with more modifications.

I really like this design but, to me, the big wing is a must have to make it look bang on.

Xusia....what?! If you will never own another vehicle...why are you here?? (I say this in a jesting/curious manner)

The all blue coupe is def HOF. It tones down the roof and makes everything flow better.

Hahaha! Yeah I left out a key word! Edited now.

The silver really has me going. Still shows off the good looks, while not showing dirt or imperfections as well as not grabbing a lot of the wrong attention.
