    Rear Grille Options, Factory Bumper

    Zero Decibel Motorsports Rear Grille

This is an interest check and group buy for two rear grilles that fit the factory FFR bumper. For a different set of rear grilles that accept different lights, check this thread here: http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showt...s-Zero-Decibel All grilles have matching hex patterns.

Paper model of the trapezoidal lower grille.

CAD render of Rectangular Grille (grille is 27" wide by 8.5" tall)

Cutout on Metros rear grille (he plans to add a cutout on the mesh for his exhaust)

    What:
Aluminum rear hexagon vent panels. The grill can come bare (bond to inside of body, bolt on, or use rivets) or with flush mount PEM studs (threaded studs permanently pressed in that are flush with the outside surface). The trapezoidal panel fits into the lower recessed area on the stock FFR bumper. This will become a standard product (though not at the group buy price).

The rectangular one is a version that Metros is planning to use centered on the upper portion of the bumper. This likely will not become a standard product and will be a one time buy for Metros with the potential for others to get on board and get better pricing for metros too.

    Why:
Better airflow than the FFR perforated mesh. More modern look. The trim laid on top of the perforated mesh looks less refined IMO. Exotic cars like Ferrari from the last generation (think F355, F360) used round hole mesh on their challenge trim level. Starting with the F430 a switch was made to a wire diamond mesh. This trend continued on with the F458. With the La Ferrari, Ferrari began to use honey comb mesh. Lamborghini was doing the same. Lamborghini dropped the wire diamond mesh from their entry level gallardo and switched to honeycomb on their new Huracan. The aventador also featured a honeycomb pattern. Mclaren used a hex extensively on the rear of their new P1 as well. Pagani dropped the wire mesh on the Zonda and went to a geometric pattern on the rear of the Huayra. Plain round hold mesh just seems so 1999

    Cost:
This will be a partial group buy and partial interest check. The grills will be setup group buy style. The more people in, the better the price (though pricing doesn't get dramatically better like some parts I've had). 50% deposit due before parts are ordered.

Add in pressed in flush mount PEM studs: $15 (at any group buy level, any grille)

    Trapezoidal, Bare Grille:
    5 people: $110
    6-10: $95
    10+: $90

    1: STimedic (pems)
    2: RM1Sepex (pems)
    3: Wleehendrick (pems)
    4: Metros
    5: bbjones (pems)
    6: DSR-3 (pems)
    7: Frankc5r (no pems)
    8: The Furnace (with pems)
    9: Mistasherm (with pems)
    10: WillD (with pems)
    11: DMC7492

    Rectangular "Metros" Grille:
    3 People: $120
    5 : $110
    6-10: $95

    1: Metros

Example of my bumper with several different rear grilles. This is the Harley818 style bumper so the grille panels aren't quite the same, but they show what it would look like more or less
    .

If you're interested please indicate as such and note whether you want the trapezoidal, rectangular, or both ($10 discount if you get both). Also please mention if you plan to rivet these on or if you want the pem studs pressed in and nylock nuts supplied.

    Thanks!

Click the link in the first post. They're some lights I imported. More pics of them in the other link too.

Did you want pem studs with the grille?

Hi Craig, I want the stock trapezoidal with PEMs. Any clue when we can see a similar grill for the original stock front? I want that and the two scoop grills by Spring!

Craig, ditto for me! I'm in for the FFR standard lower mesh (with studs).

    Thanks,

I'm in for the 'metros' upper grill and FFR stock lower grill. I had anticipated sending payment but it looks like you're still gathering interest up first. Update this thread when you're ready and I'll send payment.

Up to eight now. Just in case anyone missed it, adding in pems is $15 in addition to the group buy price. You can always press in your own if you'd like. It'll cost you a handful of dollars for the pems and nuts and you'll need access to a large press (I use a 20 ton hydraulic, the little 1 ton hand one didn't work) and an arbor. The arbor is just a piece of material with a certain size hole in it (can't remember off hand what it is). I can look up part numbers for the pems and nuts.

Would you guys ever consider using a wire mesh on the inside of these grilles? Would the extra layer of finer wire mesh be worth it - say something like the 100 x 100 stainless woven mesh seen here: http://www.bwire.com

Obviously this may cut down a bit on air flow, but in my opinion, the grille itself without anything else on the inside of it runs a huge risk of small rocks and pebbles getting through and doing some major damage to the internals.

Is this wide enough to allow me to cut out the entire opening and bond this to the back side of bumper?

No. It fits within the cutout. If you removed the entire depressed area this has nothing to attach to.

I'm making a few updates to these parts. Someone made a request to make the outer frame a little bit thinner vs the 1/2" it currently is so I'm updating all of the models. The change is to differentiate it more from the FFR trim rings and make it look a little more OEM.

Hey Craig, Are you planning on doing any other openings? I may have to opt out of this one if not as I am trying to keep the patterns all similar. I need something for the new front end.

I have the lower trapezoidal one. I also had this feeler for upper options: http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showt...s-Zero-Decibel

What part of the front end are you referring to? The side teardrop kind of shaped sections in the black part?

Finished the updates and sent them out to get quoted. The new one is on top, the original is on the bottom. The .5" frame went to .3125" frame in order to lessen the visual impact.

Pricing didn't change (as I didn't expect it to). I'll be placing the order shortly. I'll contact the individuals in the group buy via PM.

Just saw this. No, I won't be adding any wire. The end user can easily add that themselves if they'd like. There isn't much benefit to me ordering the material and cutting it and charging you for my time and shipping. I usually encourage people to explore DIY options if there's no real benefit I can provide them. CNC'd and laser cut parts are something not every can do so I feel I can offer something there. There shouldn't be any damage done to the internals if you're running an air filter and the drivetrain is typically exposed on the underside of a car so it won't see any damage either.
